Job Summary

CoWorx Staffing Services is seeking Quality Technician candidates in the Westbrook, ME area. The QA Technician is responsible for monitoring and enforcing Food Quality and Food Safety Programs with a focus on line audits, direct observations, product testing, document review, document management, and product evaluations, including sensory evaluations. This role works closely with other departments to ensure products meet quality specifications and to support continuous quality improvement.

Responsibilities
  • Perform sensory and analytical testing on ingredients and finished food samples to ensure compliance with established standards; record and analyze results.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, GMP, SQF, and other regulatory or internal quality standards.
  • Conduct audits to verify production documentation, monitor production activities, and evaluate product quality.
  • Provide daily product controls and maintain product control and sample retention systems.
  • Provide hands‑on support during product holds and release processes.
  • Perform administrative duties including data entry in Excel and TGI, calibration of laboratory equipment, verification of standards, organization of samples for external laboratory testing, verification of reprinted label accuracy, and related tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Follow all tasks and procedures using Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Global Food Safety Initiatives (GFSI), and HACCP principles to ensure food safety.
  • Work in a safe and healthy manner and take reasonable care for the health and safety of all staff. Perform daily stretching and ensure proper workstation ergonomics.

Desired Background / Skills
  • High School Diploma or GED required;
    Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Microbiology, or Chemistry preferred.
  • 1–3 years of food industry experience in Quality Assurance, Operations, or a related function preferred.
  • Knowledge of food manufacturing, quality assurance systems, SQF, HACCP, labeling laws, sanitation, allergens, and GMPs preferred.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and manage multiple tasks within established timelines.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving, organizational, communication, and computer skills.
  • Self‑directed, detail‑oriented, and capable of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
Physical Requirements / Work Conditions
  • Normally seated with freedom of movement; operates office equipment and handles light materials.
  • Normal office environment with occasional exposure to warehouse and manufacturing settings.
  • Flexible work hours may be required based on production schedules.
  • Periodic physical activity including walking, climbing, bending, standing, pushing, pulling, lifting, and stooping.
  • May spend extended periods working at a computer, requiring hand‑eye coordination and finger dexterity, and communicating face‑to‑face, by phone, and in writing.
Shift & Compensation

This role will initially work a 10:00 AM – 6:00 PM shift. If and when the hybrid shift is implemented, the schedule will move to 1:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Hourly rate: $22 to $24/Hr., with a $2.50 shift differential once the shift changes. Located in Westbrook.
