Starting pay: $24.00 per hour. Yearly Boot Allowance: $300. The expected base pay rate for this office/on-site position is $24.00. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. Job SummaryDrivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and the type of truck. They transport material to a disposal, transfer or recycle facility when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers provide pick‑up service of containers filled with waste or recyclable material, often weighing over 1,000 pounds and require maneuvering wheeled containers to a pick‑up stage area.
They navigate high‑traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, performing highly skilled backing maneuvers to successfully perform this job. Residential Drivers collect residential household waste or recyclable material and must safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments, navigating similar traffic patterns. Roll‑off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, navigating driveways, alleyways, lots, and high‑traffic roadways, and may operate in tight overhead environments on industrial routes.
Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential to successfully perform this job. This role is designated as safety sensitive and will require the successful candidate to strictly comply with all safety rules and protocols. As part of the ongoing employment requirements, the successful candidate may be subject to drug and alcohol testing—including pre‑employment screening, post‑incident evaluations, reasonable suspicion checks, and random testing—in accordance with government regulations and company policies.
- Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT requirements and all local, state, and federal laws.
- Perform pre and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks utilizing the standard DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report).
- Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
- Work closely with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Notify Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service or potential safety hazards.
- Communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
- Perform all duties as scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
Required Qualifications
- 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL.
- 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
- Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
- Successfully complete pre‑employment screening, including drug screen and physical.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air‑brake endorsement.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class B with an air‑brake endorsement.
