Summary
Drives gasoline or diesel-powered truck to transport and deliver products or materials in liquid, loose, or packaged form.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Job duties may vary based on business needs but can include generating, handling, and/or inspecting hazardous waste and hazardous waste storage. These duties include responding to and managing hazardous waste spills and incidents in accordance with the site’s emergency action or contingency plan, and preparing and managing hazardous waste records such as manifests, inspection logs, waste determination, and other reports.
- Reads customer orders/shipping papers or purchase orders, schedules deliveries or pick‑ups, and drives truck to destination.
- Inspects truck for defects before and after trips and submits a report indicating truck condition.
- Responsible for picking up product at vendor warehouse, verifying correct product, volume, and paperwork, and delivering product to company warehouse or to customer.
- Maintains driver log according to DOT regulations and completes company paperwork including bill of lading, waybills, inspection reports, driver log, trip reports, and container return reports. Driver will be trained on People Net Web Base Driver Logs in conjunction with paper logs.
- Checks bill of lading, placards, and packaging for accuracy.
- Assists workers in loading and unloading truck; collects empty containers and product to be returned and ensures they are DOT compliant before accepting from customer; drives and inspects forklift truck as necessary.
- Inspects truck equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil, and water, and schedules maintenance and repairs as needed.
- When not driving, responsibilities may include drumming product, warehouse maintenance, and housekeeping.
- Ensures all shipments are properly secured per DOT requirements before leaving the facility.
- Ensures all customer requirements are met for deliveries, including stenciling of customer codes on packages, COAs, MSDS, etc.
- Performs pre‑ and post‑trip inspection of tractor and trailer as required.
- Uses company‑provided equipment such as cell phones and People Net software in accordance with all laws, regulations, and Harcros SOPs (e.g., no talking/texting while driving).

Qualifications- Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or GED or equivalent combination of education and experience; and one to three years related experience and/or training.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals; compute rate, ratio, and percent; and draw and interpret bar graphs.
- Reasoning ability: solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations with limited standardization; interpret written, oral, diagram, or schedule instructions.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Commercial driver’s license (Class
A) and Hazardous Materials and Tank endorsement or ability to be certified. - Other qualifications:
Operate forklift truck; pass DOT physical examination.
The physical demands include sitting, using hands, reaching, talking, climbing or balancing, standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, feeling, smelling, and lifting up to 25, 50, and occasionally 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Work EnvironmentThe work environment involves outside weather conditions, proximity to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, high or precarious places, wet or humid conditions, potential electrical shock, and vibration. Noise level is usually moderate.
