Heavy Equipment Mechanic
This role focuses on maintaining, repairing, and servicing concrete crushing machines and other heavy equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation at various outdoor worksites. You will work hands-on with mechanical, hydraulic, and diesel systems, perform preventive maintenance, and support production and quality standards while prioritizing safety.
Responsibilities- Repair and replace damaged or worn parts on concrete crushing machines and other heavy equipment.
- Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools to perform repairs and maintenance.
- Handle and move heavy materials and equipment safely, including lifting up to 70 pounds as needed.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks such as changing belts, completing oil changes, and inspecting equipment for wear and safety issues.
- Work on pay loaders, excavators, crushers, and other heavy equipment to keep them in reliable operating condition.
- Diagnose and repair issues related to hydraulics, transmissions, engines, and diesel systems.
- Perform welding and mechanical repairs as needed to restore equipment to proper working order.
- Use and maintain your own tools and ensure they remain in safe working condition.
- Maintain accurate service and maintenance records for all equipment.
- Support production by keeping equipment operational and contributing to quality control standards.
- Clean up the worksite and materials daily to maintain a safe and organized environment.
- Travel between multiple locations to perform on-site repairs and maintenance as required.
- Follow all safety procedures and guidelines, and ensure safety remains the top priority at every worksite.
- Take on additional duties as needed to support operations and equipment reliability.
- Mechanical aptitude and strong interest in working with heavy equipment and machinery.
- Ability to safely lift and handle up to 70 pounds and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Experience with repair and maintenance of heavy equipment, including pay loaders, excavators, and crushers.
- Hands-on experience with hydraulics, preventive maintenance, mechanical systems, transmissions, engines, and diesel maintenance.
- Ability to perform oil changes, belt changes, and other routine service tasks on heavy equipment.
- Basic welding skills for equipment repair and maintenance.
- Proficiency using hoists and hand tools to dismantle and reassemble heavy machinery.
- Ownership of a reliable set of tools suitable for heavy equipment maintenance work.
- Reliable transportation to travel between worksites.
- Valid driver's license.
- Ability to pass a drug test and background check.
- Comfort working with tools and performing hands-on mechanical tasks.
- Comfort working in all types of outdoor environments and weather conditions.
Skills & Qualifications
- Prior experience as a heavy equipment mechanic, maintenance technician, or similar role.
- Experience working with concrete crushing machines.
- Familiarity with wood grinders, including Morbark equipment.
- Knowledge of loaders and excavators, including brands such as Caterpillar.
- Experience operating or maintaining skid steers or similar equipment.
- Teachable mindset and willingness to learn new equipment and systems.
- Interest in obtaining additional certifications and training provided by the employer.

Work EnvironmentThis role is primarily outdoors, working in all types of weather and environmental conditions. You will travel between multiple locations across Long Island, including areas from Westbury to the Hamptons, to perform on-site maintenance and repairs.
