5th Grade Teacher - 1 Year Only

As a classroom teacher, the successful candidate will provide support and guidance to students through their critical transition into the middle school environment; deliver standards-based instruction designed to meet the distinct intellectual, social, and emotional needs of young adolescents; foster a supportive, growth-oriented classroom that inspires all students to become lifelong learners and responsible, productive citizens.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver standards-based instruction tailored to the academic and developmental needs of 5th-grade students.
  • Provide instruction on pre-approved curriculum in the content area.
  • Integrates soft-skill instruction into competency-based content area activities.
  • Utilize diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to measure student progress, guide instructional decisions, and personalize learning as part of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework
  • Embed literacy, mathematical reasoning, scientific inquiry, and social studies concepts across the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with other core content teachers and interventionists on common course planning,
  • Utilize educational technology tools (e.g., Clever, Power School) to enhance student engagement and maintain accurate records.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, welcoming, and culturally responsive classroom environment grounded in mutual respect.
  • Implement positive behavioral support strategies aligned with school-wide policies and anti-bullying guidelines.
  • Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles, including English Language Learners (ELLs), students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and/or 504 plans.
  • Participate actively in grade-level team meetings, MTSS, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and School Improvement Team initiatives.
  • Adheres to the requirements and standards of the Rhode Island Department of Education Educator Evaluation process.
  • Maintain regular, transparent, and proactive communication with parents and guardians regarding academic progress and behavioral growth.
  • Performs related work as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Experience:
    • Minimum of five (5) years successful experience in teaching preferred.
    • Strong understanding of elementary curriculum frameworks, child development, and upper-elementary/middle-grades pedagogy.
    • Excellent interpersonal, classroom management, and communication skills.
  • Education:
    • Bachelor degree required.
  • Certification & Licensing:
    • Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements and/or certifications.
