5th Grade Teacher
As a classroom teacher, the successful candidate will provide support and guidance to students through their critical transition into the middle school environment; deliver standards-based instruction designed to meet the distinct intellectual, social, and emotional needs of young adolescents; foster a supportive, growth-oriented classroom that inspires all students to become lifelong learners and responsible, productive citizens.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, prepare, and deliver standards-based instruction tailored to the academic and developmental needs of 5th-grade students.
- Provide instruction on pre-approved curriculum in the content area.
- Integrates soft-skill instruction into competency-based content area activities.
- Utilize diagnostic, formative, and summative assessments to measure student progress, guide instructional decisions, and personalize learning as part of the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) framework
- Embed literacy, mathematical reasoning, scientific inquiry, and social studies concepts across the curriculum.
- Collaborate with other core content teachers and interventionists on common course planning,
- Utilize educational technology tools (e.g., Clever, Power School) to enhance student engagement and maintain accurate records.
- Foster a safe, inclusive, welcoming, and culturally responsive classroom environment grounded in mutual respect.
- Implement positive behavioral support strategies aligned with school-wide policies and anti-bullying guidelines.
- Differentiate instruction to accommodate diverse learning styles, including English Language Learners (ELLs), students with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), and/or 504 plans.
- Participate actively in grade-level team meetings, MTSS, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), and School Improvement Team initiatives.
- Adheres to the requirements and standards of the Rhode Island Department of Education Educator Evaluation process.
- Maintain regular, transparent, and proactive communication with parents and guardians regarding academic progress and behavioral growth.
- Performs related work as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years successful experience in teaching preferred.
- Strong understanding of elementary curriculum frameworks, child development, and upper-elementary/middle-grades pedagogy.
- Excellent interpersonal, classroom management, and communication skills.
- Education:
- Bachelor degree required.
- Certification & Licensing:
- Must meet the current RI Department of Education requirements and/or certifications.
