Community Service Officer

Overview

The Westerly Police Department is accepting applications for the seasonal position of Community Service Officer. This civilian, uniformed position of the Police Department, under the general direction of the Lieutenant of Special Services Division, is responsible for enforcement of parking ordinances and directing traffic.

• Foot patrol of designated areas to assist civilians and check vehicles for parking violations.
• Issue parking citations to vehicles that have violated Municipal Parking Ordinance.
• Direct traffic at intersections to assist with flow of traffic leading into beach areas.
• Stand in Right of Ways that have direct access to the beach to ensure motor vehicles do not park and unload in certain areas.
• Effective communication through radio communications.
• Communicate with the public in a positive manner.
• Other duties and projects as assigned.

• Must be 18 years of age.
• High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
• Any equivalent combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• Individuals interested in a career in law enforcement preferred (not required).

Salary is $17.00 / hour
