Receive, accession, process, embed, cut, stain, mount and label surgical specimens for examination by the pathologist.

Responsibilities- Technical Duties
- Prepare gross surgical specimens for Pathology Assistant or Pathologist.
- Other duties
- Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing specimens and slides.
- Quality
- Investigate and document problems with unacceptable specimens.
- Problem solving
- Follow established guidelines for troubleshooting instrument, reagent or specimen problems.
- Regulation Compliance
- Comply with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety.
- People
- Participate in staff meetings, help promote effective working relationships.
- Customer Service
- Use patient/family centered values and conduct all work activities with respect to the rights and wishes of patients, visitors, and families.
Education
Successfully completed a NAACLS accredited histotechnician program within the last 5 years. This requirement is waived for individuals who have a current HT(ASCP) certification or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), or an associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry, and one year full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory.
ExperienceThree years of histology experience preferred.
LicensureASCP certification (HT-ASCP) preferred.
