Responsible for assisting physicians/providers with patient care, rooming patients, and performing clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. Responsible for appointment scheduling and chart management. Provides information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the practice services. Conveys a positive image of the practice.

Responsibilities- Performs patient care responsibilities as assigned, including identifying self to patient/family, explaining roles of care team, accompanying patients to exam/procedure room, preparing patients for visit (vital signs, measurements, specimen collection where applicable, phlebotomy where applicable, etc.), documenting medical and surgical history, family history, social history, problem list, and medications in EPIC, performing screenings per physician/provider guidelines, assisting physicians/providers with procedures, obtaining pre-authorizations when necessary, conveying instructions to patients/family, providing resource materials and referrals, maintaining patient records, efficiently managing EPIC in-basket, and answering/returning calls promptly with pertinent information.
- Performs administrative responsibilities as assigned, including sending/receiving patient medical records and abstracting new patient records into EPIC, obtaining lab/radiology reports, hospital notes, and referral information, completing forms/requisitions, and cross-training on front desk duties (greeting patients/visitors, answering calls, scheduling appointments, and maintaining/scanning patient medical records).
- Performs environmental responsibilities as assigned, including setting up instruments and equipment per department protocol, applying infection control principles, cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits, cleaning the sterilizer and maintaining documentation, and ordering, sorting, and storing supplies per policy.
- Performs other related organizational duties as assigned, maintaining patient autonomy/confidentiality/dignity, ensuring timely and accurate billing, maintaining knowledge of policy/HIPAA/coding/OSHA/CLIA regulations, providing prompt attention to urgent and non-urgent patient issues, escalating problems to supervisor, collaborating on Care Coordinator for PCMH initiatives, attending staff meetings, contributing to health promotion programs, participating in quality improvement activities, advocating for vulnerable populations, fostering ongoing education, pursuing continuous quality improvements, communicating effectively with diverse patients, coordinating patient/family feedback and interventions addressing needs.
- May assist and/or perform chaperone duties for patient medical procedures as needed.
- May perform other duties as required.
EDUCATION
High School diploma or equivalent required. Must meet one of the following requirements: graduation from an accredited medical assistant (MA) certificate program or Phlebotomy program, certification as a certified nursing assistant (CNA), emergency medical technician (EMT), or paramedic. Employees who join YNHHS through merger or acquisition may satisfy educational requirements by demonstrating the appropriate combination of education, relevant experience, and current competencies.
Experience
Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a medical assistant (MA), certified nursing assistant (CNA), emergency medical technician (EMT), ambulatory care associate (ACA), patient care associate/technician (PCA/PCT), paramedic, or phlebotomist required. New graduates from an accredited medical assistant certificate program, with less than one (1) year of experience, will be considered.
LICENSURE
Certification/registration (CCMA/CMA/AAMA/RMA) preferred. Certification/registration may be accepted in lieu of graduation from an accredited MA school. Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) preferred.
