Responsibilities
- Technical Duties:
Prepare gross surgical specimens for Pathology Assistant or Pathologist. - Other duties:
Maintain accurate records of incoming and outgoing specimens and slides. - Quality:
Investigate and document problems with unacceptable specimens. - Problem solving:
Follow established guidelines for troubleshooting instrument, reagent, or specimen problems. - Regulation Compliance:
Comply with established laboratory and hospital policies for universal precautions and safety. - People:
Participate in staff meetings, help promote effective working relationships. - Customer Service:
Conduct all work activities with respect to the rights and wishes of patients, visitors, and patients' families.
Qualifications
Education:
Successfully completed a NAACLS accredited histotechnician program within the last 5 years or possess at least 60 semester hours of academic credit with biology and chemistry, or an associate degree with biology and chemistry, and one year full-time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory.
Experience:
Three years of Histology experience preferred.
Licensure: ASCP certification (HT-ASCP) preferred.
