Directly connected to the newly renovated United Theatre in historic Westerly, Rhode Island, this Classic American Cafe concept will be the F&B hub of the Arts Complex (and town). With 85 seats within the restaurant itself and access to multiple event spaces within the theatre, the opportunities for creative culinary programming are endless.

The server position supports all the activities of The Cafe. The same maintains high standards of food and beverage quality and service. The following skills are crucial to outstanding performance in this role and dining room: experience in all aspects of guest relations, wine, beverage, and mixology knowledge. Related computer skills including Excel, Word, ADP, and Point of Sales systems. Works independently and as a team to meet Five-Star quality service, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient.

All employees are kindly asked to understand that the property operation is 24 hours a day 7 days a week, inclusive of all holidays. While the company will make every attempt to create a work and life balance, all hourly paid team members may be asked to work extended shifts and additional days based on business demands. The busiest of days during the season (Memorial Day through Columbus Day) are the weekend days from Friday through Sunday and on holiday weekends that are celebrated on Mondays, this can include Mondays.

All seasonal staff must be aware and able to work all weekends; requesting time off for a holiday weekend may not and will likely not be granted. The more flexible you are the more you can learn, grow, earn.

The server position reports to the Food & Beverage management team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Ensuring that restaurant is clean, linen, china and silverware are in excellent conditions prior to service. As well as the table appointments, including center table arrangements are impeccable.
  • Having a high level of understanding of wine pairings.
  • Communicating effectively with the Front of the House Manager and General Manager as appropriate to ensure training in the Cocktail Menu and wines takes place on a daily basis prior to service.
  • Maintaining a good understanding of current events, to be able to engage with guests in appropriate conversation.
  • Ensuring service is performed in a timely, efficient yet comfortable manner in order to maintain proper pace of service and as required by Forbes 5-Star standards.
  • Responsible for practicing, managing, and promoting the Company's Statement of Purpose, Service Excellence Pillars, and Declarations so that it becomes an intricate part of the everyday operation.
  • Representing the Company with a positive attitude and professional presentation.
  • Following sustainability guidelines and practices related to the Company's sustainability programs.
  • Carrying out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope, and purpose of this job description and which are commensurate with the role.

Required job knowledge, skills, qualifications, and education include:

  • At least 2 to 5 years of work experience that can be demonstrated to be applicable to the duties listed in the job description.
  • Experience in the luxury hospitality and experience in a five-star environment is preferred.
  • Ability to handle multiple, simultaneous tasks and projects effectively and efficiently.
  • Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed, and accuracy under pressure of tense/confrontational situations.
  • Fluency in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse operation.
  • Ability to effectively deal with internal and external guests.
  • Hearing, smelling, tasting and visual ability to observe and distinguish product quality and detect signs of emergency situations.
  • Uphold the Company standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Prioritize and organize tasks and work area.
  • Ability to remain calm and resolve problems using good judgement as interpreted by the management.
  • Follow directions.
  • Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team
  • Maintain confidentiality of guest/employee information and pertinent company data
