Thieneman Construction, Inc. is seeking a Staff Accountant for our office in Westfield, Indiana. This position will work closely with project managers, and operational personnel to support the financial activities of the company and its related entities. This role is responsible for maintaining accurate accounting records, supporting project accounting functions, performing reconciliations, and assisting with financial reporting in a fast-paced construction environment.

The Staff Accountant plays a key role in ensuring the integrity of financial information and supporting informed business decision-making.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Assist with the maintenance and accuracy of accounting records for multiple related entities.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and construction personnel to accurately capture, record, and report construction activity.
  • Support project accounting functions including job costing, progress billing, and construction draw administration.
  • Track, record construction draws and record owner and management company payments.
  • Prepare and reconcile general ledger accounts and balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes.
  • Record and maintain fixed asset activity, including depreciation schedules and monthly depreciation entries.
  • Prepare journal entries and supporting documentation.
  • Analyze financial data and research account discrepancies.
  • Assist in preparing internal financial reports and supporting schedules.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and other financial planning initiatives as requested.
  • Assist with payroll-related accounting activities, including payroll reconciliations and labor allocation reporting.
  • Track and update payroll burden rates for private, federal government, and state projects as needed.
  • Support external auditors, tax professionals, and other financial consultants by providing requested documentation and schedules.
  • Ensure compliance with company accounting policies, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Assist with identifying opportunities for process improvements and increased efficiencies within accounting operations.
  • Perform other accounting and financial duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting
Experience
  • 2-5 years of accounting experience
  • Experience with in the construction, real estate, or related industry strongly preferred.
  • Public accounting experience is a plus.
  • Payroll accounting experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
  • Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Understanding of construction accounting concepts, including job costing and percentage-of-completion accounting.
  • Experience with account reconciliations, general ledger maintenance, and financial reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience with construction accounting software, including Procore, Foundation, or similar ERP systems preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion when handling confidential information.
Work Environment
  • Primarily office-based position located in Westfield, Indiana.
  • Regular interaction with accounting staff, project management teams, and company leadership.
  • Occasional overtime may be required to meet reporting deadlines and month-end or year-end requirements.
