Safety Manager
Position Summary
Custom Concrete is seeking a dedicated, proactive, and safety-focused professional to join our team as a Safety Manager.
The Safety Manager plays a critical role in promoting a culture of safety and accountability throughout the organization. This position is responsible for supporting and advancing the company's safety initiatives, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and partnering with operations to reduce risk and prevent workplace incidents.
Working closely with the Corporate Safety Director and Safety Coordinators, the Safety Manager will provide leadership, training, coaching, and field support to ensure safe work practices are consistently followed across all company operations.
Essential Functions
Safety Leadership & Culture
- Partner with operations leaders to foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Serve as a safety resource and trusted advisor to employees, supervisors, and managers.
- Promote employee engagement in safety initiatives through training, coaching, and communication.
- Support and reinforce company safety policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Participate in and facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and educational training programs.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Maintain knowledge of and ensure compliance with OSHA and other applicable federal, state, and local safety regulations.
- Monitor regulatory updates and recommend policy or procedural changes as necessary.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and assessments to identify hazards and ensure regulatory compliance.
- Develop and implement corrective actions and risk mitigation strategies.
- Assist in the administration and oversight of company safety programs.
Incident Investigation & Reporting
- Investigate workplace incidents, injuries, property damage events, and near-miss incidents.
- Conduct root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans.
- Ensure proper incident reporting procedures are followed throughout the organization.
- Maintain accurate and timely safety records and documentation.
Training & Development
- Deliver safety orientation and ongoing safety education to employees.
- Develop and update training materials to support company objectives and regulatory requirements.
- Provide coaching and field mentoring to supervisors and employees regarding safe work practices.
- Assist with implementation of safety-related technology, learning tools, and employee development initiatives.
Program Administration
- Assist in managing OSHA compliance programs, including:
- OSHA 300 Logs
- Hazard Communication
- Emergency Action Planning
- Fire Prevention Programs
- Powered Industrial Truck (Forklift) Training
- PPE Programs
- Incident Reporting and Recordkeeping
- Prepare reports, metrics, and recommendations related to safety performance and risk management efforts.
- Utilize smartphones, tablets, and computer software to document inspections, observations, incidents, and training activities.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
- Frequent travel to jobsites and company facilities.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
- Ability to walk uneven terrain and active construction sites.
- Ability to climb ladders, enter excavations, and navigate construction environments safely.
- Ability to perform inspections in wet, muddy, dusty, and physically demanding conditions.
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Driver's License and ability to meet the requirements of the Custom Concrete Driver Qualification Program.
- Minimum of 5 years of construction safety experience.
- Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices.
