Platinum Recruiting Group, a leading Midwest-based executive search firm, has partnered with a confidential private equity-backed industrial distribution company to identify a Controller who will serve as a key member of the finance leadership team.

This is a high-impact role with a growing, acquisitive organization generating approximately $200M in annual revenue. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will have significant visibility with executive leadership, private equity sponsors, lenders, auditors, and external advisors.

This opportunity is ideal for an accounting leader who enjoys building scalable processes, driving operational improvements, supporting acquisitions, and influencing strategic business decisions. You'll have the ability to shape the finance function while helping guide the company's next phase of growth.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead all accounting operations, including month-end close, consolidations, and financial statement preparation
  • Deliver timely and accurate GAAP-compliant reporting to leadership, lenders, and private equity stakeholders
  • Own monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting packages, including KPI reporting and variance analysis
  • Manage EBITDA reporting and sponsor-related financial requirements
  • Oversee all tax compliance activities and coordinate with external tax advisors
  • Own cash management and maintain a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast
  • Monitor liquidity, working capital performance, and cash conversion metrics
  • Manage borrowing base reporting, lender packages, and debt covenant compliance
  • Serve as a key finance contact for banking and lending partners
Audit, Technical Accounting & Controls
  • Lead external audits and serve as the primary liaison with auditors
  • Oversee technical accounting matters including revenue recognition, acquisition accounting, inventory valuation, leases, and reserves
  • Strengthen internal controls and drive continuous process improvement initiatives
M&A & Integration
  • Support acquisition activity through purchase accounting, opening balance sheets, and transaction reporting
  • Partner with leadership on acquisition integration efforts, systems alignment, and reporting processes
  • Manage acquisition-related fund flows and transaction-level financial reporting
Team Development
  • Mentor and develop the accounting team while fostering a culture of accountability, urgency, and continuous improvement
  • Identify automation opportunities and scalable processes to support future growth
  • Partner closely with the CFO on strategic projects and business initiatives

This organization operates in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial private equity environment where finance plays a critical role in driving business performance. The Controller will work closely with executive leadership, operations teams, lenders, auditors, and private equity sponsors.

What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • CPA strongly preferred
  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience
  • Big 4 public accounting background strongly preferred
  • Experience with in a private equity‑backed, leveraged, or sponsor‑owned business preferred
  • Background in industrial distribution, manufacturing, or related industries is a plus
  • Strong expertise in financial reporting, technical accounting, cash flow forecasting, audit management, and internal controls
  • Experience supporting acquisitions and post‑close integration activities
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills
  • Spanish language skills are a plus
