Job Summary

Responsible for the installation of all aspects of wireless tower site electronics and hardware, cabling, and electrical where applicable.

Essential Functions
  • Complete and maintain the tower safety and rescue training program.
  • Climb and work on communications towers for the installation, replacement, and repair of antenna systems equipment; perform tower maintenance.
  • Use and maintain hand tools and mechanical equipment.
  • Identify hazards associated with tower climbing, construction equipment, and working near energized lines and equipment.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure all hardware is tight, antennas are level, hangers are properly fastened, support is in place, or adequate weatherproofing has been installed.
  • Complete a Job Safety Analysis (JSA) before each tower climb and document the JSA once the job has been completed.
  • Recognize safety hazards and perform duties in a safe manner.
  • Run appropriate power, ground, fiber, Cat5e, and/or coaxial cables.
  • Check antenna positioning to ensure specified azimuths or mechanical tilts and adjust as necessary.
  • Inspect telecommunications equipment to identify problems and adjust equipment to ensure optimal performance.
  • Climb tall structures up to 500 feet carrying loads.
  • Analyze situations accurately and adopt an appropriate course of action.
  • Communicate orally and in writing.
  • Follow instructions accurately and complete assigned tasks.
  • Take site photos documenting work performed.
  • Transport equipment to work sites using utility trucks and equipment trailers.
  • Lift equipment into position safely using rigging tools or equipment such as a capstan hoist.
  • Complete reports related to outages, project status, progress, or other work details using phone and computer software.
  • Ensure the combined weight of employee and tools does not exceed the 300‑pound weight limit specified by the safety equipment manufacturer.
  • Use safety equipment and techniques learned from the tower safety and rescue training program when climbing towers.
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license and adhere to the Nextlink Vehicle Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Capture images needed to address work issues.
Skills
  • Recent experience working outdoors.
  • Proficient with basic hand tools.
  • Team‑oriented and safety‑conscious mindset.
  • Must pass a drug screening test and a criminal background check.
  • Must pass the in‑house training program.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record in compliance with company policy.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of basic hand tools, mechanical equipment, and electro‑mechanical equipment.
Job Classification

Field Operations – Tower (Non‑Exempt)

Physical Demands
  • Stationary position for 8‑10 hours a day.
  • Frequently moving, transporting, and positioning objects weighing 50 pounds or more.
  • Must be able to lift own body weight plus equipment weight up a vertical tower repeatedly.
  • Often required to stand, walk, stoop, sit, and climb ladders and communication towers in positions up to 250 feet.
  • Frequent use of hand and power tools.
Working Hours/Days

Irregular hours Monday through Friday. Full‑time, minimum 40 hours per week, flexible schedule. Overtime as needed. On‑call rotation required.

Travel Requirements

20‑40% voluntary travel or as needed. Overnight travel required as needed.
