Responsibilities- Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of students.
- Prepare individualized education plans.
- Collaborate with school-based related service providers.
- Collaborate with team on curriculum and student needs.
- Assess educational needs of students using standardized tools, running records, and other informal assessments.
- Maintain complete records of re‑evaluation periods, required student documentation, and parent communication.
- Integrate technology into instruction.
- Provide differentiated instruction to students as needed.
- Implement school, district, and department policies.
- Create and manage effective communication with parents of special education students.
- Create and follow goals and objectives for IEPs, write quarterly progress reports, and follow behavioral plans with integrity.
- Follow the Westfield Public Schools code of conduct for the classroom; develop rules of classroom behavior which are enforced fairly and justly.
- Plan and supervise assignments for classroom paraprofessionals.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal, the Superintendent of schools, or their designee.
This position is subject to funding.

AdditionalPhysical Requirements
Work is generally conducted within the school building. Ability to travel throughout the building is necessary. The position involves sitting and the ability to move between classrooms. Light work with regular lifting up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting up to 25 pounds, involving some pulling, pushing, or reaching above desks and file drawers. Frequent use of hands to operate keyboards and telephones and other office equipment.
Qualifications- Certified or certifiable as a teacher of Moderate or Severe Disabilities at the appropriate level (Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education).
- Training and experience in Orton Gillingham.
- Knowledge of multi-grade high school curriculum.
- Strong classroom management skills and ability to lead staff.
- Meet requirements as set forth under Federal and State Special Education Regulations.
- Citizenship, residency, or work visa required.
