Job DescriptionWestfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for an opening for a special education teacher at Munger Hill Elementary School for the school year.
Responsibilities- Provide basic core program for those students assigned to this class consistent with state education code requirements.
- Work cooperatively with classroom teachers who have students integrated in their regular classes, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of these students to the entire staff, and assisting the student with regular assignments.
- Maintain the physical environment of the classroom for organization and presentation purposes.
- Encourage good citizenship.
- Work with individual students in providing educational experiences designed to help in the achievement of student's specific goals.
- Assist other professionals in resolving psychological, social, academic, and disciplinary problems of students.
- Assist in screening, evaluating, and recommending placement of students in the program.
- Supervise students in and out of classroom activities during the school day.
- Provide appropriate direction for the facilitation of mainstreaming.
- Assist in the development and implementation of the individual educational plan.
- Collect data and assist in development of Individual Behavior Intervention Plans.
- Work with other staff on curriculum development and program innovation.
- Monitor student progress in and outside classroom.
- Maintain contact with parents of students.
- Evaluate student progress based on work output and observation; determine goals, objectives, and directions.
- Prepare report cards, education records, IEP forms, classroom observation records and other forms.
- Administer testing evaluation.
- Participate in IEP meetings.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools.
Building Principal
Salary placement will be based on the application as submitted. Salary and terms of employment will be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit A contract. Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.

Job Requirements- REQUIREMENTS:
- Certified as a teacher of moderate disabilities by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education at the appropriate level.
- Experience working with discipline programs, behavioral needs and therapeutic interventions.
- Those requirements as set forth under Federal and State Special Education Regulations.
- Successful candidate must be able to provide in‑person teaching.
- ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally conducted within school building. Ability to travel throughout the school building is necessary. Position involves sitting and the ability to travel from one place to another within the classroom. Work is light in nature with regular lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds with some pulling and pushing or reaching above, generally of desk and file drawers.
