School Adjustment Counselor – Long Term Substitute (May–June) – Preschool

Westfield Public Schools is hiring one (1) School Adjustment Counselor Long Term Substitute to work from May 1 through the end of the  school year.

• Counsel, test and assist in developing programmatic alternatives for students with serious adjustment problems.
• Work cooperatively with all staff related to the programs for these identified students.
• Establish positive relationships with the home.
• Serve as a referral agent to obtain outside assistance when needed.
• Be involved in developing behavioral objectives for IEPs.
• Attend case conferences on students if required.
• Maintain pertinent records on all referred students.
• Have periodic meetings with teachers to follow up on program recommendations.
• Work on potential referrals for student assistance program when needed.
• Participate in 504 team meetings.
• Development of behavioral plans.
• Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of Schools.

Building Principal

Salary will be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools NONC contract. Salary placement will be based on information contained in the application as submitted. $170 to $258 Per Day. Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.

• Current and valid certification as a School Adjustment Counselor issued by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
• A minimum of three years teaching experience is desired.
• Experience in elementary school setting or early childhood setting is desired.

Work is generally conducted within school building. Ability to travel throughout the school building is necessary. Position involves sitting and the ability to travel from one place to another within the classroom. Work is light in nature with regular lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting of 25 pounds with some pulling and pushing or reaching above, generally of desk and file drawers.

Frequent use of hands to operate keyboards, telephones and other office equipment.
