Associate Professor / Professor of Criminal Justice - Tenure Track

Westfield State University's Department of Criminal Justice seeks a candidate, at the Associate Professor or Professor level (rank commensurate with experience), to teach and serve as Department Chair in the Criminal Justice program. The position is expected to begin January 2025; a Summer 2025 start may also be considered.

The program, the first such program in Massachusetts and a premier program in the Commonwealth, serves over 800 undergraduate and 75 master students, delivering a broad-based liberal arts education rooted in critical inquiry.

• Oversee undergraduate majors/minors and criminal‑justice affiliated programs.
• Lead the department in curricular vision, innovation, and student‑focused practice.
• Teach, serve, and conduct scholarship across multiple modalities (face‑to‑face, online, hybrid).
• Work closely with colleagues and Academic Affairs leadership.
• Coordinate academic programming: program assessment, curriculum development, course scheduling, vetting adjunct instructors, and communicating resource needs.
• Facilitate department meetings and chair meetings.

• Ph.D. in Criminal Justice, Criminology, or related field.
• Three or more years of academic leadership experience.
• Five or more years of demonstrated effective teaching in a tenure‑track position.
• Experience with curriculum design and evaluation of program outcomes.
• Experience in a union environment preferred.

• Outstanding academic scholarship, successful teaching and advising experience in criminal justice.
