RISE SPECIAL EDUCATION TEACHER - ELEMENTARY
Westfield Public Schools is seeking additional qualified applicants for one (1) RISE Special Education Teacher position at Westfield River Elementary School. Responsibilities include planning a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students, preparing individualized education plans, collaborating with school-based related service providers, assessing educational needs of students, maintaining complete records of re-evaluation periods, integrating technology into instruction, providing differentiated instruction to students as needed, implementing school, district, and department policies, creating and managing effective communication with parents of special education students, and following goals and objectives for IEPs, writing quarterly progress reports, and following behavior plans with integrity.
Reports to:
Building Principal and Special Education Program Supervisor. The salary and terms of employment will be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Unit A contract. Step placement will be based on the information as submitted in the application. Performance on this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation. This position is subject to funding.

Qualifications include being certified or certifiable as a teacher of Moderate or Severe Disabilities, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, experience with functional assessments (FBA) and behavioral intervention plans (BIP's), knowledge of multi-grade elementary curriculum, ability to provide direct teaching and ABA experience preferred, strong classroom management skills and ability to lead staff, and those requirements as set forth under Federal and State Special Education Regulations.
Additional requirements include work generally conducted within school building, ability to travel throughout the school building, position involves sitting and the ability to travel from one place to another within the classroom, work is light in nature with regular lifting of up to 10 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds with some pulling and pushing or reaching above, generally of desk and file drawers, frequent use of hands to operate keyboards and telephones and other office equipment.
