Job DescriptionWestfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for one (1) LONG TERM SUB opening for a Special Education Teacher at Westfield Intermediate School.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests and abilities of the students.
- Prepare individualized education plans.
- Collaborate with school based related service providers.
- Collaborate with team on curriculum and student needs.
- Assess educational needs of students by use of standardized tools, running records and other informal assessments.
- Maintain complete records of re-evaluation periods, required student documentation and parent communication.
- Integrate technology into instruction.
- Provide differentiated instruction to students as needed.
- Implement school, district and department policies.
- Create and manage effective communication with parents of special education students.
- Create and follow goals and objectives for IEP’s, write quarterly progress reports and follow behavior plans with integrity.
- Follow the Westfield Public Schools code of conduct for the classroom which is consistent with established administrative policies and develops rules of classroom behavior which are enforced in a fair and just manner.
- Plans and supervises assignments for classroom paraprofessionals.
- Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or the Superintendent of schools and/or their designee.
REPORTS TO:
Building Principal and Special Education Program Supervisor
The salary and terms of employment will be commensurate with the Westfield Public Schools Non-Contract Chart.
Performance on this position will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.
This position subject to funding.

To help you become familiar with your school, we have developed this student & parent handbook. It contains procedures, attendance, and discipline policies that are used. Read this handbook carefully so you will know what is expected of you.
It is one of your responsibilities. If you have any questions about the contents, please ask one of your teachers or guidance counselors. It is important for families to know what goes on at the middle school. We encourage a firm avenue of communication between school and home. We invite you to become involved in your child's education. You may want to join the Parent-Teacher Advisory Committee or run for a seat on our School Council.
You may wish to help out with a school activity or volunteer in the school library. Your involvement in any way is important to your child's education. Parents/guardians are always welcome at the intermediate school. We need your support. We wish both students and parents/guardians alike a very successful year.
- QUALIFICATIONS:
- Certified or certifiable as a teacher of Moderate or Severe Disabilities at the appropriate level, Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
- Experience with functional assessments (FBA) and behavioral intervention plans (BIP’s).
- Knowledge of multi-grade elementary curriculum.
