Job Summary: Under close supervision, this position is responsible for performing basic services of our tractors, trailers, chassis, containers, and power equipment at a customer site or rail yard using a mobile service truck. The position may require outdoor work, work in the elements, and availability for multiple shifts including nights and weekends, as well as overtime, with full‑time attendance required.
Key Responsibilities- Perform basic preventive maintenance tasks such as tire replacements/flat repairs, brake adjustments/services/replacements, electrical diagnostics, and basic structural repairs on trailer chassis, sub‑frames, etc.
- Follow all safety requirements while at a customer or rail yard.
- Operate assigned service truck professionally and keep the unit clean and well stocked.
- Accurately complete work orders and other written materials according to established procedures.
- Properly document damage to company equipment to allow subrogation of repair costs.
- Use a cutting torch and welding equipment to perform minor repairs on chassis, frames, brackets, etc.
- Patch holes in trailer/container side panels and roofs ensuring all holes are sealed and water tight.
- Perform annual AA Trailer and FHWA Brake Inspections under the supervision of a certified technician as required.
- 18 years of age for equipment up to 10,000lbs or 21 years of age for equipment over 10,000lbs.
- Clean motor vehicle record per J.B. Hunt guidelines.
- Ability to supply own basic tools or purchase through our toolbox purchase program.
- Willingness to work outdoors in the elements.
- Availability to work across multiple shifts, including nights and/or weekends, if needed.
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent with up to 1year of experience in semi‑tractor or semi‑trailer maintenance and repair, or equivalent education/experience.
- At least 1year of experience in DOT inspections, FHWA inspections, and air brakes.
- Welding certification.
- Forklift certification and experience.
- EPA Section
608 certification and refrigeration license. - Effective communication skills through various mediums.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Proficient computer skills and/or comfortable working with a computer, including Microsoft Office suite (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, etc.).
- Ability to use time and resources efficiently and effectively.
- Physical capability to lift/move up to 50pounds.
- Ability to wear appropriate work attire (protective gear/PPE).
The expected starting pay range for this position is between $25.81–$38.72 per hour. Pay may be affected by skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications. The position may be eligible for an annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the Company’s bonus and incentive plans.
