Product Engineer – Precision Optics and Thin Film Coatings
Materion is seeking a Product Engineer to join our rapidly growing Precision Optics and Thin Film Coatings team located in Tyngsboro, MA. This hands‑on position is focused on the characterization, optimization, and continuous improvement of manufacturing processes for thin‑film optics and array value‑added assemblies. The Product Engineer will play a critical role in enhancing process efficiency, product quality, and project management.
SalarySalary range: $85,000 to $97,000* (based on experience, education, geographic location, and other qualifications; final offer will be determined based on candidate’s individual merits and company’s compensation policies).
Responsibilities- Characterize and optimize manufacturing processes for thin-film optics and array assemblies.
- Continuously improve process efficiency and product quality.
- Plan and track tasks for complex projects, collaborating cross‑functionally.
- Leverage data‑driven decision‑making, SPC, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing tools.
- Engage in problem solving, root cause analysis, and statistical quality management.
- Communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and suppliers.
- Maintain project documentation and reports using Microsoft Word, Excel, and MS Project or similar software.
- Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related).
- 0–3 years of engineering experience in manufacturing process development, optics, or optical coating technologies.
- Experience in a low‑volume, high‑mix product environment is an asset.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to coordinate with personnel at all levels.
- Proficiency with SPC, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and statistical problem‑solving tools.
- Ability to analyze and resolve complex technical problems independently.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and MS Project or similar planning software.
- Experience with SPC tools, DOE, and root‑cause analysis (e.g., 5‑Whys, Fishbone).
- Track record of leading multiple projects simultaneously.
- Background in high‑mix, low‑volume production environments.
- This position requires eligibility to obtain a security clearance.
- Non‑U.S. citizens may not be eligible.
- Export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology is required under ITAR and EAR regulations; candidates must qualify as a U.S. citizen, national, lawful permanent resident, asylee or refugee, or other eligible status per governing agencies.
