Field Service Technician
The Field Service Technician installs, troubleshoots, and repairs communication and electronic systems in shipboard and related military environments. This role focuses on resolving technical issues with cables, radios, CAN interfaces, and Ethernet connectivity, as well as building and repairing RF and multi-pin connectors. The technician supports projects remotely and on-site, with significant travel to shipyards, naval facilities, and other locations as needed.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot issues with communication systems, including cable problems, radio programming, CAN interface issues, and Ethernet connectivity via vehicle maintenance ports.
- Build, troubleshoot, and repair RF connectors such as N-Type, TNC, BNC, and UM, as well as multi-pin connectors, RJ-45 connectors, and RJ-11 connectors.
- Install, maintain, and support communications and electronic equipment in shipboard, shipyard, and related environments.
- Travel as needed, potentially up to 80–90%, to support program requirements at various domestic and international locations.
- Read and interpret schematics, 1-wire diagrams, level 2+ cable drawings, and technical documentation to perform accurate installations and repairs.
- Populate required data for standard military documents in accordance with applicable standards and procedures.
- Solder cables and terminate equipment in accordance with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) and industry standards.
- Apply knowledge of Alternating Current and Direct Current (AC/DC) theory when installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment.
- Support the build and installation of vessel components and cable runs, ensuring adherence to military and industry standards.
- Utilize Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Acrobat to document work, prepare reports, and communicate status updates.
- Work collaboratively in a team environment, providing technical guidance and support based on 3–5 years of team lead experience.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable military standards, procedures, and safety requirements.
Essential Skills
- 3–5 years of team lead experience, ideally in a military shipboard environment.
- Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in maintenance and/or use of communications and electronics.
- Active Secret Clearance.
- Valid passport.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, technical drawings, 1-wire diagrams, and level 2+ cable drawings.
- Experience with military standards and procedures.
- Hands-on experience in shipboard, shipyard, shipbuilding, or naval systems environments.
- Ability to troubleshoot cable problems, radio programming issues, CAN interface issues, and Ethernet connectivity.
- Skill in building, troubleshooting, and repairing N-Type, TNC, BNC, UM RF connectors, multi-pin connectors, RJ-45 connectors, and RJ-11 connectors.
- Familiarity with soldering cables and terminating equipment in accordance with OEM and industry standards.
- Knowledge of AC/DC theory and its application in communication and electronic systems.
- Ability to travel extensively as required by project needs.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Prior Military Occupational Specialty experience such as 25H (Signal Support Specialist), 25S (Satellite Communication Systems Operator-Maintainer), or 25U (Network Communication Systems Specialist), or equivalent USMC 0600 or 2800 fields.
- Related military experience in other branches with communications, electronics, or naval systems.
- Experience with systems such as SINCGARS, Blue Force Tracker (BFT), DAGR, satellite communication systems, and other tactical communication platforms.
- Experience in army, marine, navy, naval shipyard, or watercraft environments.
- Experience with vessel component and cable installations in maritime or naval settings.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow military documentation and procedures.
- Effective communication skills for working within cross-functional technical teams.
