Qualifications
  • Must be willing and able to submit to a criminal background check.
Job Responsibilities
  • Monitor and assist students with special needs while riding in a school bus until released to a teacher, designated school employee, parent/guardian, or responsible adult.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Pay Schedule

Hourly rate (step 1-10): $16.00 – $18.56
Pay for sub and regular bus aides is current and varies by step.

Attendance Incentives
  • Regular bus aides receive attendance incentive based on sick days used during each of three designated periods:
    • First day of work – November 30:
      Zero days used – $200;
      One partial day used – $100.
    • December 1 – last school day before Spring Break:
      Zero days – $200;
      One partial day – $100.
    • Spring Break – last school day of the year:
      Zero days – $200;
      One partial day – $100.
Pay Benefits
  • Five days of paid time off during Spring Break, plus two additional days during Winter Holiday Break for those with six or more years of experience.
  • Three personal paid days during the school year.
  • Two paid snow days when used, with possibility to use accrued personal or sick time up to the maximum allowed by law.
  • Sick leave accrual each month.
  • Retirement through the Michigan Public School Employees’ Retirement System (MPSERS).
  • Eligibility for vision & dental insurance and certain health insurance benefits, or opt for a cash‑in‑lieu if working 30+ assigned hours per week.
  • Option to increase work hours to 30+ hours per week by working in West Ottawa’s Food Service department (between the morning and afternoon bus runs).
