Senior Manager, Accounting & Finance
- Epilepsy Foundation Michigan (Affiliate) Position Objective

The Senior Manager, Accounting & Finance is responsible for the accurate, timely, and effective management of the Epilepsy Foundation of Michigan’s day-to-day accounting and financial reporting functions. This position maintains the integrity of the general ledger, supports budgeting and audit activities, manages grant and internal financial reporting, and partners with the President and leadership team to provide financial information, analysis, and insights that support sound decision-making and the Foundation’s short- and long-term financial strategy.

Principal

Duties and Responsibilities General Accounting & Financial Operations
  • Maintain the Foundation’s general ledger accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Manage general accounting functions, including cash receipts, cash disbursements, purchase orders, invoicing, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, bank reconciliations, general ledger entries, and financial statements.
  • Develop, update, and maintain documentation supporting allocations and journal entries.
  • Perform detailed account analyses for internal management and audit purposes.
  • Maintain appropriate financial documentation and records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and nonprofit accounting standards.
  • Monitor internal control procedures and recommend improvements as appropriate.
  • Manage bank deposits, check processing, invoice processing, and related financial workflows.
Budgeting, Analysis & Financial Strategy
  • Partner with the President and leadership team to develop the annual organizational budget and supporting documentation for Board approval according to established timelines.
  • Monitor actual financial results against budget and prepare monthly and ad hoc variance analyses, including explanations of significant variances.
  • Present budget variances and financial information to the President, Board Treasurer, Finance Committee, Executive Committee, and Board of Directors as requested.
  • Prepare financial analyses, projections, and decision-support materials to assist leadership in evaluating programs, initiatives, staffing, grants, and other organizational priorities.
  • Provide financial insights and trend analysis to support strategic planning, financial sustainability, and responsible stewardship of organizational resources.
Financial Reporting & Audit Support
  • Prepare timely and accurate financial reports for internal and external use on a daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, as applicable.
  • Prepare supporting schedules, work papers, account analyses, and documentation for the annual audit.
  • Collaborate with the Foundation’s Audit Committee and external auditors throughout the annual audit process and fieldwork.
  • Partner with the President and Foundation team to enhance financial reports, dashboards, and reporting processes.
  • Prepare and submit required external financial reports.
Grants, Cash Flow, Investments & Financial Administration
  • Prepare cash flow reports and projections throughout the year as required.
  • Manage grant tracking, contract activity, grant accounting support, and related reporting requirements.
  • Maintain and monitor the Foundation’s investment account and provide reporting updates to the President and Board as requested.
