Summary
Promotes enrollment and retention of adult learners and other economically disadvantaged students into special programs offered through CCCD colleges and learning partners. Participates in outreach activities, organizes community events, and builds direct relationships with potential students.
Distinguishing Career Features
The Outreach Specialist – Adult Education focuses on building and maintaining connections with peer agencies, delivering career‑based education, and managing demographic research and data for enrollment and retention.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Conduct college outreach: schedule, coordinate, and present information to individuals and groups; attend career fairs; initiate communications with target populations.Provide prospective students with information about admissions, enrollment, assessment, and matriculation; verify enrollment status and resolve problems.Offer one‑on‑one support and follow‑up services to promote student retention and completion.Act as liaison with local adult schools, continuation schools, workforce development boards, and other agencies to build enrollment.Lead event planning and facilitation; develop funding and in‑kind resource activities; arrange college visits and tours.Enter and use data in complex software (Banner, ARGOS, SARS); maintain secure records.Organize and maintain program research data; report to funding and grantor agencies.Assist with budget development activities and monitor expense records.Create and publish bulletins, flyers, newsletters, certificates, and awards; maintain education websites and social media.Train and review temporary employee work.Receive and analyze demographic and academic data; identify potential candidates for non‑credit programs.Stay current on district and external support services; attend professional development related to adult education.Perform other related duties that support the position’s objectives.Abide by all district policies, including Board Policy 3050 – Code of Professional Ethics.Qualifications and Physical Demands Knowledge and Skills
Working knowledge of grant or state‑funded programs for adults and disadvantaged students.Understanding of higher education certificate and degree requirements for disadvantaged students.Knowledge of services that benefit adult education students.Awareness of social and cultural programs that enhance student retention.Working knowledge of funding sources and requirements, and services available from other agencies.Human relations skills to convey technical concepts, exercise patience, and make presentations.Language and writing skills to prepare reports and correspondence.Proficiency with office productivity software (databases, word processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics).Math skills sufficient to maintain financial and statistical records.Abilities
