Become a District Planning Specialist at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this job, you will be the single point of contact (SPOC) responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and assigning all projects to the appropriate department. You will also be responsible for checking, tracking, and following up on spreadsheets for program work.

Responsibilities- Develop and prepare construction plans, drawings, and electrical distribution plans; identify necessary resources, provide cost estimates, and ensure compliance with electrical designs and SCE standards.
- Interact with a diverse customer base to meet electrical design needs and deliver successful outcomes for customers and SCE on assigned projects.
- Participate in small‑to‑medium residential, commercial, and industrial projects; assist in determining scope of work, service method, and construction methods for distribution overhead and underground facilities; manage work orders and maintain understanding of industry practices.
- Provide technical support to licensing and certification proceedings related to new distribution/transmission lines and substation sites.
- Stay up to date with current industry practices, standards, and customer needs.
- Identify environmental requirements and coordinate required project components with other departments, customers, governmental bodies, and external sources.
- Support project drawings and budgets by monitoring internal and external timelines and expectations.
- Manage multiple projects using project‑management principles, tools, and techniques; make critical decisions with minimal supervision, manage risks, resolve issues, and address escalations impacting scope, timeline, and budget.
- Perform field inspections to gather data relevant to the planning and development review process and verify compliance with approved plans.
- Protect all company assets and handle sensitive data with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
- One or more years of experience in electrical utility distribution/transmission/telecommunication design, line construction, or a related engineering discipline.
- Valid Class C driver’s license.
- Basic understanding of engineering principles, construction standards, and industry practices.
- Experience with design tools such as CAD, GIS, or similar systems.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Experience in customer service or project coordination roles.
- Training or education applying technical information (engineering, pole loading, drafting, construction, mapping, math, science, IT).
- Ability to read or create simple distribution or technical drawings.
- Adaptability to competing priorities while maintaining accuracy.
- Effective collaboration across teams (clients, peers, management, agencies).
- Completion of a Planner Utility Certification Program.
- Experience managing customer or stakeholder interactions in a technical, construction, or utility environment.
- This position is hybrid; employees will work from an SCE facility on a set number of days with an option to work remotely on the remaining days. Employees must work and reside in California. Work mode may change based on business needs.
- The primary location is the Huntington Beach Service Center, but the successful candidate may be asked to work at alternate locations.
- Position requires up to 50% traveling and field work throughout the SCE service territory.
- Option for a 9/80 alternate work schedule or a 40‑hour/5‑day week.
- Relocation does not apply to this position.
