Development and Testing Engineer 1 Overview

Join the Clean Energy Revolution. Become a Development and Testing Engineer 1 in the Grid Technology Development (GTD) team at Southern California Edison (SCE) and build a better tomorrow. In this role, you’ll contribute to the adoption of cutting‑edge Grid Platform and Grid Enhancing Technologies. Your work will play a key role in advancing SCE Pathway 2045 vision by testing and demonstrating new technology that supports a clean, affordable, and reliable grid across our infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare technical engineering evaluations and support inspections of equipment and operations.
  • Assist in the review and application of new technologies to improve quality of service to customers.
  • Maintain records and documentation on relevant engineering procedures and preventative/demand maintenance.
  • Assist with engineering projects, using existing procedures to investigate, evaluate, and produce technically correct and cost‑effective designs and solutions.
  • Support the document lifecycle within assigned projects according to defined organizational processes.
  • Provide operational support to improve customer satisfaction and reliability performance; monitor trends of electrical system health.
  • Assist with Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Apparent Cause Analysis (ACA), and miscellaneous investigations to troubleshoot problems, making changes to correct them.
  • Observe all safety policies during the execution of required tasks and ensure safety standards are met, and safe working practices are adhered to.
  • Ensure the protection of physical, financial, and cybersecurity assets; properly access and manage private customer data, proprietary information, confidential medical records, and other types of highly sensitive information with the highest standards of conduct and integrity.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a scientific/technical/math field.
  • Experience performing engineering work in operations, production, construction or maintenance environments.
  • Possess a valid Class C Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and collaboration skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills demonstrating the ability to identify, understand, and deliver upon customer needs.
  • Experience working safely in a hands‑on lab environment using instrumentation and performing testing.
  • Experience with troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis.
  • Experience with data analysis and project management software and the ability to learn new software tools quickly.
  • Familiarity with SCE’s publicly available January 2025 Technology Roadmap.
  • Familiarity with SCE’s publicly available white papers.
  • Familiarity with the CPUC’s Electric Program Investment Charge (EPIC) program.
Additional Information
  • Work mode is hybrid: employee will report to an SCE facility for a set number of days with the option to work remotely on remaining days. Employees are required to work and reside in the state of California, unless otherwise noted. Details on work mode will be discussed at the interview stage. The work mode can change based on business needs.

  • Position requires up to 15% traveling and being out in the field throughout the SCE service territory.
