Summer Camp Leader
Position Purpose / Important Application InformationThe Summer Camp Leader assists with the design, development, and implementation of an exciting, safe, and fun‑filled experience for participants in the Youth and Teen program. This position requires a minimum of 455 hours of documented work or volunteer experience with school‑age children, ages 5 to 14. The role is based at one of the City’s two campsites:
City Park Recreation Center or Countryside Recreation Center. Camp Leaders are scheduled to work between 38 and 40 hours per week between the hours of 6:45 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Staff cannot take more than five (5) days of time off during Camp. Recreation staff have the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety of program participants. Employees in this position may be subject to random drug testing and/or heightened supervision per the personnel policies and rules.
- Work alongside certified teachers

- Assist in the planning and organizing of activities in the areas of crafts, sports, games, special events, and field trips with other camp leaders
- Provide a safe environment for the participants
- Comply with licensing regulations
- Administer basic first aid
- Help maintain equipment and supplies
- Maintain regular and punctual submission of time sheets and attendance
- Attend all staff meetings
- Provide additional assistance to children with special needs
- Drive a golf cart (City Park location only)
- Must be at least 18 years old
- High school diploma or GED
- At least three (3) months of documented, full‑time equivalent (455 hours) work or volunteer experience with school‑age children, five to 15 years of age
- First Aid, CPR and AED certification (provided during training)
- Completion of some related college coursework
- Current and valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and maintain a safe driving record for continued employment (City Park location only)
- Frequently sit, stand and walk through a multi‑level facility
- Occasionally squat, bend, kneel, twist, climb, balance and reach overhead
- Occasionally lift, carry, push or pull items weighing up to fifty (50) pounds
- Frequently use hands and fingers for fine manipulation; occasionally use light and firm grasp
- Frequently see objects up close to perform office tasks and far away to observe activity for safety hazards or problems
- Constantly use hearing to interact with guests and staff and recognize trouble outside of view
- Occasionally use sufficient physical strength, stamina and agility to perform emergency work in various capacities
- Participate in swimming twice a week, as we need all staff to be in the water so we can meet state licensing requirements
Work is constantly performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to extreme temperatures. Work is performed in a high public use recreation facility where loud noise and multiple events and activities at one time may cause a distraction. Exposure to periods of high activity and stress under demanding conditions. The position requires a great deal of communication with City employees, the public, and outside agencies.
