Job Description
The Career Navigator at the Community College of Denver serves as a guide and resource for prospective and newly enrolled students, supporting them in making informed decisions about their academic, career, and employment goals. The role works across multiple entry points—including prospective student inquiry, New Student Orientation, the High School Diploma Program, and ongoing case management—to ensure timely, student‑centered support.
Responsibilities- Recruitment & Outreach: Recruit and outreach to prospective students, present and tabulate at community events, and complete next steps to enrollment.
- Career Counseling: Provide one‑on‑one and group counseling, assist with self‑assessment, career exploration, and goal setting, help articulate prior learning and work experience, and create an academic plan.
- Career Planning: Guide students in developing personalized career plans, selecting labor market information, wage outcomes, courses, transfer pathways, internships, and extracurricular activities.
- Workshops & Presentations: Develop and deliver workshops on career exploration, labor market information, resume writing, job search strategies, interview preparation, and professional networking; lead New Student Orientation sessions.
- Resource Referral & Campus Partnerships: Monitor High School Diploma Program students, connect students to career resources, and collaborate with academic departments, advising teams, workforce development, financial aid, and student support services.
- Job Search Support: Assist with resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, networking, and utilization of online job boards and internship databases.
- Industry Research: Stay updated on labor market trends, industry developments, emerging careers, and provide relevant information on salaries, qualifications, and growth opportunities.
- Data Tracking & Reporting: Maintain accurate records of student interactions, generate reports on career activities and outcomes, and contribute to assessment and continuous improvement efforts.
- Barrier Identification: Identify structural barriers impacting student decision‑making and share insights with recruitment and student success leadership.
- Other Duties: Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
- Minimum Qualification: Any equivalent combination of education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in counseling, education, human resources, or a related field.
- Experience:
- Two (2) years in an educational, workforce, or community college counseling or advisory role.
- Two (2) years working with first‑generation students, low‑income students, adult learners, and students of color.
- Experience navigating students through the enrollment process, including application, onboarding, FAFSA, scholarships, advising, and registration.
- Knowledge & Skills (Preferred):
- Demonstrated commitment to inclusive excellence.
- Ability to guide individuals in making informed career decisions.
- Clear communication of complex academic and career information.
- Project management and administrative skills for student records and reporting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, One Drive, Outlook).
- Strong industry connections and stakeholder communication.
- Success in securing and communicating educational or career resources.
- Collaboration skills with faculty, staff, and external partners.
- Teamwork and presentation abilities.
- Availability for occasional evening or weekend hours to support recruitment events.
