Salary: Salary placement on our Certified Salary schedule is dependent on the employee's education and/or work experience. Certified/licensed employees will be granted one (1) year for each full year of contractual and/or work experience up to a maximum of ten (10) years, which includes in-district and out-of-district contractual teaching and/or work experience. Responsibility for verification of outside experience shall rest with the individual employee.

Job Description

Platte Valley Middle School is seeking a school counselor to promote and enhance the learning process for students through an integration of academic, personal/social, and post-secondary development. The counselor works with students regarding issues such as course and program selection, class scheduling, school adjustment, study habits, social or behavioral problems, and college/career planning. The individual will collaborate with administration, faculty, staff, parents/guardians, and community partners regarding student needs.

Essential

Functions
  • Counsels individual students regarding educational issues such as organization, study habits, scheduling, and overall school adjustment.
  • Counsels individuals to help them understand and overcome personal, social, or behavioral problems affecting their education.
  • Creates and runs small counseling groups based on school needs.
  • Partners with Health and PE teacher to administer the school Social Emotional Curriculum.
  • Utilizes “Bloom sights” or other survey application to monitor school climate and student need.
  • Serves as the 504 coordinator for the building.
  • Works alongside CBOCES and North Range personnel to administer Threat Assessments and other mental health diagnostics.
  • In charge of building the master schedule.
  • Participates in teacher teams as well as the school MTSS team.
  • Assists the School Assessment Coordinator in the administration of CMAS.
  • Works alongside front office personnel on school registrar duties.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge and skills sufficient to perform all duties of the position.
  • Ability to manage budget, case load, and time constraints.
  • Ability to relate well with children, parents and other school/district staff and community members.
  • Possess strong communication skills with students, parents and staff members able to generate positive relations and morale.
  • Highly motivated and results oriented.
  • Ability to use district technology.
  • Strong desire to work with students and families to improve the educational opportunities and outcomes for students.
  • Growth mindset that works to stay abreast of high-quality research based practices.
  • Prefers a work environment where flexibility, ability to deal with conflict, a high tolerance for stress, an ability to quickly internalize information and make informed decisions.
