Evaluation Procedures:
Student workers are evaluated on a continuous basis.
The Library Technical Services Student Assistant is responsible for supporting the Technical Services Department's daily activities.
Responsibilities- Checking in periodicals on an automated system and shelving.
- Applying/inserting library identification on materials received by the library.
- Checking in newspapers.
- Shelf reading periodicals and popular collections.
- Shifting periodicals, government documents, microfilm and microfiche collections.
- Searching the book stacks for duplicate copies.
- Searching a variety of databases for bibliographic information.
- Unpacking/sorting new library materials.
- Unpacking/processing bindery shipments.
- Labeling and pasting materials.
- Matching workslips, OCLC printouts and library materials.
- Other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Required Qualifications
- Current undergraduate student at McDaniel College.
- Free time to work a minimum of 5 hours per week (Mon.
- Fri., 8 am - 4 pm). - Interest in library work and willingness to perform various types of work.
- Ability to work with accuracy and attention to details.
- Dependable work habits.
- Ability to quickly arrange workload in order to deal with competing priorities.
- Familiarity with computers and computer applications.
- Experience with online library catalogs.
- This position requires sitting or standing for long periods of time, as well as lifting, bending and stooping.
- This position does have some lifting involved when processing materials and shifting.
- Finger/hand dexterity and steadiness is involved when labeling and pasting. The ability to use a keyboard and mouse is required. The overall setting of the job is in an area conducive to a normal office environment with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.
Data User
- Follow the policies and procedures established by the appropriate Data Stewards.
- Comply with federal and state laws and regulations as well as College policies, procedures, and standards associated with the College computing resources and institutional data used.
- Use institutional data only as required for the conduct of College business within the scope of employment.
- Implement safeguards prescribed by appropriate Data Stewards for Limited Access and Restricted Data.
- Ensure the appropriateness, accuracy, and timeliness of institutional data used for the conduct of College business.
- Report any unauthorized access, data misuse or data quality issues to the appropriate Data Steward for remediation.
- Accept and complete the confidentiality statement yearly if access includes Restricted data.
- Report any suspected data breach to the CIO and the IT Help Desk as soon as possible.
