Position: Seasonal Park Ranger/Open Space Technician

Recreation staff have the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety of program participants and promoting conservation and stewardship efforts. This position is classified as safety-sensitive due to the nature of the work. Employees in this position may be subject to random drug testing and/or heightened supervision per the personnel policies and rules. Must be willing and able to work a varied schedule from mid-March through early October including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate.

GENERAL COMPETENCIES Job Specific – Every employee in this position must be able to:

  • Perform grounds maintenance of open space and amenities including construction, hand tool use and equipment use and equipment care and maintenance
  • Remove snow at public facilities when necessary
  • Demonstrate understanding of safety rules and procedures

Job Functions, Duties, Responsibilities, and Tasks
  • Enforces Open Space rules and regulations, Westminster Municipal Code, and patrols open space areas in vehicles, and on foot
  • Issues citations/summonses as necessary
  • Educates Open Space visitors and provides general information and assistance
  • Supports outreach and environmental education efforts
  • Performs routine maintenance on Open Space such as trash removal, fencing repair, trail repair, graffiti removal and mowing using a variety of equipment and hand tools
  • Prepares daily reports and patrol logs, incident reports, etc.
  • Obtains First Aid, CPR and AED certification (provided during training)
  • Responds appropriately to emergencies
  • Possesses a valid driver’s license, provides proof of a safe driving record, and maintains a safe driving record for continued…
