Seasonal Park Ranger​/Space Technician

Recreation staff have the primary responsibility of ensuring the safety of program participants and promoting conservation and stewardship efforts. This position is classified as safety-sensitive due to the nature of the work. Employees in this position may be subject to random drug testing and/or heightened supervision per the personnel policies and rules. Must be willing and able to work a varied schedule from mid-March through early October including weekends, evenings, and holidays.

The full salary range for this position is stated above. The starting range of pay is dependent on qualifications and experience of each individual candidate.

• Demonstrate excellent skills in guest relations
• Assist the public and City staff in a friendly and helpful manner establishing effective working relationships
• Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
• Maintain moderately complex records diligently and accurately
• Educate public visitors about Open Space
• Work in a high-usage/fast‑paced leisure facility environment
• Work independently as well as with others
• Objectively handle a wide variety of public contact situations
• Deal with emergency situations with prompt, calm, common sense action
• Demonstrate some knowledge of general open space maintenance practices and techniques; first aid and rescue practices; wildlife management, and local vegetation
• Learn applicable municipal codes and pertinent regulations
• Perform grounds maintenance of open space and amenities including construction, hand tool use and equipment use and equipment care and maintenance
• Remove snow at public facilities when necessary
• Demonstrate understanding of safety rules and procedures
