Position Purpose

The Electrical Inspector is responsible for performing skilled inspection work to ensure compliance with state and local codes and ordinances regulating the installation of electrical wiring, apparatus, or equipment for electrical light, heat or power within the City. The role also includes planning examinations and inspections of residential, commercial and industrial installations to ascertain compliance.

Responsibilities
  • Inspects new and existing residential, commercial and industrial electrical installations and equipment for compliance with applicable state and local codes and ordinances.
  • Issues correction notices where electrical installations or equipment are found to be defective or in violation of applicable codes and ordinances.
  • Makes recommendations on correct methods of installation.
  • Reviews electrical plans and specifications for compliance with applicable state and local codes and ordinances.
  • Confers with electrical contractors regarding the design of new electrical installations as well as the alteration of existing electrical installations within the City.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance, prepares necessary records and reports.
  • Works independently on field inspections and makes decisions using technical judgment; consults with a technical superior on more difficult cases.
  • Submits work to periodic checks and reviews by a technical superior.
Position Requirements
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Journeyman or Master Electrician license from the Colorado State Electrical Board.
  • Experience as a Journeyman or Master Electrician in a wide variety of electrical installation work.
  • Valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Ability to operate a City motor vehicle safely.
  • Physical ability to stand, walk, squat, kneel, climb, and lift as described in Physical Requirements.
  • Legal entitlement to work in the United States.
Physical Requirements
  • Constant standing and walking on uneven terrain in various conditions.
  • Constant squatting, bending, and kneeling at inspection sites.
  • Frequent sitting to write reports and travel to sites; frequent twisting.
  • Occasional crawling, climbing, and balancing on ladders and stairs at unprotected heights.
  • Frequent light grasping, hand manipulation, and handling of tools and equipment.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 30 pounds; occasional pushing/pulling up to 20 pounds.
  • Frequent use of near and far acuity to detect hazards and write reports.
Working Conditions

Work is performed indoors and outdoors, sometimes under extreme temperatures, and in noisy construction environments where hearing is needed for customer service.
