Job DescriptionGeneral Summary: The Facilities department provides a safe, clean, and functional facility to enable the faculty, staff, and students of Front Range Community College to achieve their educational goals. Provides electrical service, installation and repair for all electrical equipment that is required for the proper operation of the college's physical plants. Maintains HVAC equipment, maintains motor control circuits, fire alarm systems, and computer automation systems.
Plans out requisitions on materials for remodeling and/or service repairs and conducts preventive/controlled maintenance and repairs on all electrical equipment.
Duties:
Analyze, Perform, Troubleshoot Equipment/Circuits
Analyze electrical equipment and circuits, including but not limited to; motors, variable frequency drives (VFD's) motor magnetic starters, lighting circuits, power distribution panels, fire alarm system, security system, door openers and emergency lighting system. Performs annual preventative maintenance on electrical equipment, i.e. thermal photographs of panels and or equipment, tightening lugs and contact points, solves maintenance deficiencies. Provides monthly meter readings and adjusts/maintains lighting timers as needed.
Maintains current knowledge of electrical code updates. Essential to follow PPE for Arc Flash protection.
Troubleshoot and repair burned out or defective electrical, fire alarm panel and HVAC equipment including electrical motors, VFD's, magnetic starters, switches and disconnects, sensors, fire alarm system components, relays and lighting contractors, electric door openers, convenience outlets, photo electric cells and exhaust systems. Adheres to NFPA and electrical codes. Essential to follow PPE for Arc Flash protection.
Replace Lamps/Ballasts & Troubleshoot Walkways/Parking Lots
Replace burned out lamps such as; fluorescent and incandescent, high pressure sodium vapor lamps, mercury vapor lamps and metal halide lamps. Replace burned out light ballasts. Troubleshoot and repair buried walkway and parking lot wire. Seeks XCEL Energy rebate opportunities for energy efficient upgrades.
Control Equipment for Computerized Automation Systems
Operate, program, troubleshoot, and install control equipment for computerized automation systems to monitor and operate all HVAC and fire alarm system equipment. Install low voltage conduit path and wiring for other computer equipment. Pull wire and install conduit for new circuits, assist other departments with low voltage wiring issues including removal of non-rated wiring, running new circuits, and other operational efficiency improvements.
Remodeling/Emergency Situations
Design, fabricate and install electrical circuits, lighting fixtures and electrical equipment for remodeling. Develop and work from blueprints. Install computer line conditioners and isolation circuits where required to protect computers. Follows NFPA and current electrical code requirements and other building codes as required. Reviews documents for construction and remodel projects and offers recommendations and or constructive feedback.
Connect and/or disconnect power to electric machines, install electric power to additional machines as required. Analyze and correct electrical problems on industrial shop equipment. Responds to after-hours emergencies, assist fire department and emergency crews as needed during emergency situations, and/or perform other tasks at this PD Classification level or below assigned by the supervisor.
Preventive Maintenance
Perform preventative maintenance including inspecting, cleaning and adjusting motor starters, variable frequency drives (VFD's), motor control circuits, lighting contractors, electric door openers and computer automation systems.
