The Chaplain Program is a volunteer position with the Adams County Sheriff's Office. The Adams County Sheriff's Office chaplains provide counseling, emotional support, and/or spiritual guidance to office members, their families, and the public.

Responsibilities
  • Provide guidance and assistance to employees and their families.
  • Contact employees and provide spiritual resources.
  • Perform follow‑up contact with employees and their families.
  • Available 24 hours a day and can respond within one hour to call‑outs.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality beyond the normal scope of employment.
  • Compile monthly statistics on all incidents handled.
  • Complete necessary reports and paperwork.
  • Transport employees or their family members to specified locations.
  • Provide information to the Sheriff's Office employees on the Chaplain program.
  • Update resources for employees and their families.
  • Be on call one week a month.
  • Attend scheduled chaplain meetings.
  • Provide assistance, Pastoral care, and an open ear with love and compassion to any Adams County Sheriff's Office employee or citizen who needs it as a direct result of crisis, tragedy, trauma, or illness.
  • Some of the primary situations that may require our assistance are SIDS deaths, death notifications, homicides, suicides, fatal accidents, officer‑involved shootings, natural or man‑made disasters, funerals and memorial services, and hospitalization or death of an Adams County Sheriff's Office employee or family member.
  • Successfully complete all mandatory training.
Qualifications
  • Valid Colorado Driver's License.
  • Minimum of 21 years of age.
  • High school Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of five years of ministry experience.
    • Degree, certification, or ordainment may be considered in place of experience.
  • Possess sensitivity and good communication skills when working with Sheriff's Office employees.

A lengthy background process will be utilized to select the most qualified candidates, about 45-60 days.

Testing Process

The testing process includes:

  • A panel interview with the lead chaplain and other members of the SO.
Background Process
  • Psychological Suitability Assessment (JSA)
  • Integrity Interview with a background detective
  • Computerized Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA)
  • Medical Exam
