Job Description:
The adjunct faculty is responsible for teaching academic courses as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Nursing. Adjunct nursing faculty may teach in any of the learning environments including the didactic classroom, nursing skills laboratory, clinical setting, or nursing simulation laboratory. Adjunct faculty have the same freedom and responsibilities in the conduct of their courses as full-time faculty.
Note:
Adjunct faculty are typically hired on a per course basis for a single semester at a time, but adjustments may be made according to program needs.
* Meet all the faculty responsibilities listed in the McDaniel College Faculty Handbook for Adjunct Faculty.
* Teach the academic courses and in the learning environment as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Nursing.
* Use appropriate and effective pedagogical frameworks relevant to course content, setting, and evidenced-based practice.
* Provide written syllabi that inform students of objectives and requirements, attendance policy, and methods of evaluation.
* Maintain accurate, objective and complete grading rosters for all students within assigned courses.
* Submit all grades to the Registrar by the published deadline
* Observe all requirements of the McDaniel College Honor Code (Student Handbook)
* Provide all examination/evaluation results to students within the timeframe outlined in the Nursing Faculty Handbook.
* Treat grades and other student records with confidentiality and in accord with state and federal law.
* Conduct all duties and responsibilities in a safe manner in compliance with McDaniel policies and procedures.
* Administer various forms of evaluation of student learning as appropriate for the course learning outcomes.
* Demonstrate ability to teach and evaluate clinical judgment as taught in the Nursing Program curriculum.
* Confer with students about matters (including assignments) related to the particular courses in which they teach.
* Adhere to the stipulations in the Adjunct Faculty Handbook.
* When available, attend and participate in nursing department committees.
* Orient to clinical facilities if clinical instruction is part of the teaching assignment.
* Abide by all policies and procedures of the clinical site.
* Provide all documents required by the clinical site, such as immunizations, background check, drug testing, and any other requirements.
* Engage in evaluation processes as needed for the courses assigned as used in the Nursing Program and to implement the Systematic Evaluation Plan.
* Serve as a professional role model for students.
* Maintain clinical skills in the assigned area of responsibility.
* Comply with regulatory guidelines, including FERPA and Title IX.
* Other duties as assigned by the Chair of the Department of Nursing related to adjunct role
Requirements:
Education and Experience
* Graduate degree in nursing (or in progress).
* Expertise in nursing practice required to teach assigned nursing courses.
* Minimum of 2 years of current clinical experience as a registered nurse.
* Active, unencumbered Maryland RN license or multistate privilege to practice registered nursing.
* Valid driver's license and proof of automobile insurance.
* Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds is preferred.
* Two or more years of experience delivering instruction at the college level preferred.
Required Knowledge and Skills
* Demonstrated proficiency in nursing practice, teaching strategies, and curriculum development.
* Excellent/strong oral and written communication skills.
* Excellent interpersonal and team collaboration abilities.
* Capacity to work effectively in a team environment and work well independently.
* Capacity to organize, prioritize, and coordinate multiple projects and schedules.
* Technological proficiency, including simulation/lab equipment, instructional platforms, and Microsoft Office.
* Understanding of accreditation and regulatory requirements relevant to nursing simulation education.
* Participate in nursing department accreditation activities related to role.
* Capacity to deal effectively with a wide range of relationships and confidential situations.
* Ability to mentor, support, and lead students and colleagues in academic and lab environments.
* Commitment to transparency, continuous improvement, and professional ethics.
