Catholic Charities’ Head Start/ Early Head Start programs promote school readiness and family self‑sufficiency through holistic services. Catholic Charities of Baltimore, Harford County Head Start is seeking a Classroom Aide responsible for supporting and assisting in the creation of a safe, stimulating, and nurturing environment that supports the growth, well‑being, and development of children. The aide will incorporate Catholic Charities’ mission, vision, values, and philosophies into daily work while demonstrating a positive attitude and commitment to excellence.

• Assist the teaching team in selecting materials and equipment and arranging the classroom to create a well‑managed, welcoming environment that meets the developmental needs of children.
• Respect and incorporate children’s cultural and home environments within the classroom setting.
• Support the teaching team in addressing the physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs of children in line with Head Start Performance Standards and Catholic Charities’ mission, vision, and values.
• Maintain a classroom environment that reflects the principles of the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS):
  
  • Emotional Support: motivate, nurture, and connect children.
  
  • Classroom Organization: provide engaging learning tasks.
  
  • Instructional Support: support cognitive and language development.
• Comply with federal, state, and local guidelines and the policies and procedures of the Maryland State Office of Child Care, Head Start, and Catholic Charities.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High School Diploma or GED.

• Ability to utilize required computer systems and software.
• Ability and willingness to relate effectively with individuals from diverse socio‑economic groups, model appropriate language with children and adults, and demonstrate professional responsibility and personal integrity.
• Ability to accompany children on field trips and actively participate in other activities.
• Adherence to the established work schedule and all policies and procedures.

• Long periods of standing, intermittent reaching, bending, walking, stooping, and sitting, including sitting on the floor; ability to move freely throughout the building, including stair climbing where no elevator is available.
• Ability to respond to a child in distress and lift up to 40 lbs. irregularly.
• Vision and hearing acuity and clear speech required to perform essential job functions.
