Catholic Charities of Baltimore within Carroll County is seeking a Head Start Teacher to manage classroom environment and deliver learning experiences that support children's development. The position works Monday‑Friday, 7:30‑3:30 pm. Pay ranges from $25.64 to $33.33 per hour (depending on education) and includes a $2,000 sign‑on bonus.
Job Duties & Responsibilities- Ensure student supervision at all times and maintain appropriate safety precautions.
- Implement the designated curriculum and Head Start Performance Standards, including IEP and IFSPs.
- Creates and maintains a classroom environment incorporating the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS) principles:
- Emotional Support:
Motivate, nurture and connect children. - Classroom Organization:
Provide engaging activities and learning tasks consistently. - Instructional Support:
Deliver curriculum that supports cognitive and language development.
- Emotional Support:
- Develop lesson plans that support individualized instruction based on ongoing assessment.
- Establish collaborative relationships with parents/caregivers to promote routine, positive communication.
- Include families in the educational process, encourage participation in center activities and serve as resource during parent conferences and home visits.
- Comply with federal, state and local guidelines and policies of Maryland State Office of Child Care, Head Start and Catholic Charities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Teacher I (508000)
- Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, or an Associate’s in a related field with coursework equivalent to a major in ECE and internship or one year of experience teaching preschool‑age children.
- Extensive knowledge of childcare principles, procedures and early childhood teaching strategies.
- Teacher II (531000)
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, or a Bachelor’s in a related field with equivalent coursework and one year of experience teaching preschool‑age children; or Bachelor’s degree and:
1) admitted into Teach For America,
2) passed Praxis II or equivalent early childhood exam,
3) completed Teach For America summer training with preschool instruction,
4) receiving ongoing professional development and resources from Teach For America. - Extensive knowledge of childcare principles, procedures and early childhood teaching strategies.
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, or a Bachelor’s in a related field with equivalent coursework and one year of experience teaching preschool‑age children; or Bachelor’s degree and:
- Teacher III (532000)
- Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), or a Master’s in a related field with equivalent coursework and one year of experience teaching preschool‑age children.
- Extensive knowledge of childcare principles, procedures and early childhood teaching strategies.
- Teachers (I/II/III) must begin application for a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) credential and receive the credential within:
- six months of employment, or
- one year if no early childhood experience at time of hire.
- Displays patience and composure with children and parents, fostering positive relationships.
- Possesses extensive knowledge of childcare philosophies and procedures, ensuring high‑quality care.
- Effectively connects with children, creating an engaging, enjoyable environment.
- Utilizes strong understanding of early childhood teaching strategies to support developmental growth and learning.
- Shows discretion, tact and professionalism in all situations, maintaining confidentiality and integrity.
- Proficient in computer systems and software (Windows PC, web browsing, Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, One Drive).
- No remote or hybrid work; role is location‑based.
- Remain stationary, standing or sitting for extended periods.
- Move objects up to 40 lb in all directions (lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling).
- Communicate verbally and in writing with colleagues, clients and external parties.
- Maintain accuracy and quality of work per guidelines.
- Use ladders, stairs, ramps or poles as required.
- Walk, stand or travel between work sites as needed.
- Adequate hearing and vision (with or without correction) required.
