Overview
Description and job details supporting the Head Start Teacher role in Carroll County, under Catholic Charities of Baltimore. Pay rate: $25.64 - $33.33/hourly (depending on education). Sign-on bonus: $2,000.00.
Work schedule:
Monday - Friday 7:30 AM - 3:30 PM or 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM.
- Ensure students are properly supervised at all times and take appropriate safety precautions for children’s well-being.
- Implement the designated curriculum using guides and other materials addressing physical, cognitive, social, and emotional needs, aligned with Head Start Performance Standards. Implement IEPs and IFSPs.
- Create and maintain a classroom environment that incorporates the Classroom Assessment Scoring System (CLASS):
- Emotional Support: foster a nurturing and connected classroom.
- Classroom Organization: provide engaging activities and maintain student interest.
- Instructional Support: support cognitive and language development through curriculum delivery.
- Develop lesson plans supporting individualized instruction based on ongoing assessment of each student’s progress and achievements.
- Establish productive collaborative relationships with parents/caregivers to promote routine, positive home–school communication.
- Include families in the educational process; encourage participation in Center activities; conduct regular parent conferences and home visits.
- Comply with federal, state, and local guidelines and with policies of the Maryland State Office of Child Care, Head Start, and Catholic Charities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Teacher I (508000)
- Associate degree in Early Childhood Education;
- Or an associate degree in a related field with coursework equivalent to a major in early childhood education, with internship or one year of preschool teaching experience;
- Extensive knowledge of childcare principles, procedures and early childhood teaching strategies.
Teacher II (531000)
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with coursework equivalent to a major in early childhood education and one year of preschool teaching experience;
- Alternative pathway for Teach For America participants as described (see original text) with ongoing professional development and resources;
- Extensive knowledge of childcare principles, procedures and early childhood teaching strategies.
Teacher III (532000)
- Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education or related field with one year of preschool teaching experience;
- Extensive knowledge of childcare principles, procedures and early childhood teaching strategies.
- Teachers I/II/III must begin the application for a Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) credential and receive the credential within six months of employment or within one year if no prior early childhood experience at hire.
- Patience and composure when working with children and interacting with parents; foster positive relationships.
- Extensive knowledge of childcare philosophies and procedures to ensure high-quality care.
- Ability to connect with children and create an engaging environment.
- Strong understanding of early childhood teaching strategies to support development.
- Discretion, tact, professionalism, and confidentiality.
- Proficiency with computer systems and software relevant to job functions (Windows, web browsing, Microsoft Outlook; knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, One Drive preferred).
- No remote or hybrid work availability; core responsibilities require on-site presence.
- Stationary work with possible standing or sitting for extended periods.
- Ability to lift or move objects up to 40 pounds as needed to perform job duties.
- Effective communication, including verbal and non-verbal interactions.
- Ability to assess accuracy, neatness, and completeness of work according to guidelines.
- Ability to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, ramps, or similar structures as required; move between work sites as needed.
