Job DescriptionPosition Summary:
The Project Engineer is responsible for the design and development of HVAC systems and controls for passenger rail transit vehicles. Primary objective s are to deliver HVAC systems on-time, within approved budgets, and in specification, while achieving customer satisfaction and mitigating risks.
The Project Engineer is responsible for system design, including system calculations, drawings, integration, testing, commissioning support, and technical support to other internal departments. They ensure progress of detail design development meets project requirements and that specifications are complied with or waivers are approved.
Essential Functions- Review customer specifications and create clause-by-clause documentation in response
- Perform system performance calculations
- Prepare technical proposals
- Develop new system specifications and documentation such as system descriptions, tests, and analysis
- Develop system schematics (piping diagrams) and keep updated
- Create system bill of materials, keep updated, and provide costing/weight estimates per system bill of materials
- Monitor/ensure specification compliance and create waivers when required
- Provide customer feedback to design engineers and project management
- Provide engineering task schedule input to project management
- Review and approve customer manuals and training materials produced by the Engineering Services Department
- Develop component specifications to meet system requirements
- Provide quarterly project updates to Senior Staff and Department Managers regarding project progress
- Check and verify the documentation created by other Systems Engineers
- Develop new systems for the North American market with new functions and features based on customer requirements
- Provide technical support for other Systems Engineers
- Maintain a safe, clean and healthy environment and ensure compliance with company rules and policies
- Comply with quality, product safety, and HSE rules, guidelines and regulations; be energy conscious when applicable
- Understand and comply with applicable standards (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 22163, ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, AAR, CMMI)
- Maintain and safeguard business records
- Substitute for the Team Leader during short leaves of absence
- Represent the company at customer-facing functions when required
- Provide support and assistance to colleagues and perform other duties as requested

- Knowledge of refrigeration systems
At least 5 years of experience as a Project Engineer or Project Manager. Rail experience is a plus.
EducationBachelor’s degree in engineering, math, or physics.
Compensation and BenefitsThe anticipated salary range for Westminster, MD is $89,000 to $134,000 per year. Final pay depends on experience, education, and other factors. Eligible employees may enroll in health, dental, vision, life and disability insurance; a 401(k) plan; paid time off and holidays; parental leave; stock purchase plan; and other benefits described in plan documents.
