Carroll Hospital
Location: 200 Memorial Avenue, Westminster, MD 21157
Schedule: 6:45AM- 7:15PM
Carroll Hospital is seeking a Part-Time OB Technician (OB Tech) to support nursing staff in providing high-quality care to mothers and infants during labor, delivery, and the post-delivery period. This role also functions as a Unit Secretary and provides surgical assistance during obstetrical procedures. All care and services are delivered in alignment with Carroll Hospital’s mission and SPIRIT values.
The OB Technician works under the direction of a Registered Nurse and within established performance standards to ensure safe, compassionate, and effective patient care for neonates, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients.
Key ResponsibilitiesPatient Care & Clinical Support
Assist licensed nursing staff with direct patient care, including vital signs, blood glucose checks, intake/output, weights, EKGs, baths, ambulation, and answering call lights
Provide surgical assistance during C-sections, tubal ligations, and vaginal deliveries (scrub and circulate as appropriate)
Independently perform routine newborn testing, including blood sugars, hearing screenings, and pulse oximetry; ensure all testing is completed prior to discharge
Observe and report changes in patient condition promptly to licensed staff
Maintain turning schedules and assist with fall prevention and safety measures
Support infection prevention practices and patient safety initiatives
Unit Secretary & Administrative Duties
Serve as receptionist and communication hub for the unit
Maintain accurate, timely, and complete documentation in patient records
Prepare and organize patient charts; ensure charts are cleaned and complete at discharge
Manage admitting, transfer, and discharge processes, including valuables lists and transfer paperwork
Maintain an organized, professional, and tidy nurses’ station
Environment, Equipment & Supplies
Stock patient rooms and supplies; ensure appropriate inventory levels
Clean, check, and report equipment issues or failures
Maintain a safe, neat, and organized unit environment
Utilize cost-containment principles and enter charges accurately
Professional Practice & Teamwork
Provide excellent customer service to patients, families, and team members
Collaborate effectively with nurses and interdisciplinary team members
Assist with orientation and support of new associates; serve as mentor/preceptor when appropriate
Demonstrate flexibility, professionalism, and adaptability to change
Complete required competencies, continuing education, and mandatory training
Licenses & Certifications (Required):
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) – Current Maryland license or eligibility to obtain
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Skills & Abilities:
Strong multitasking and prioritization skills
Excellent communication and customer service skills
Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times
Proficiency in unit secretary functions and clinical support tasks
