JOB SUMMARY
The Systems Administrator supports the reliable, secure, and efficient operation of district technology systems, including servers, endpoints, enterprise applications, Microsoft services, and related infrastructure. This position assists with system administration, account and access management, technical troubleshooting, documentation, backups, and technology support for schools and departments. The role also supports cybersecurity operations by monitoring and analyzing system, endpoint, application, and security logs;
reviewing Microsoft Defender and related security alerts; assisting with remediation and escalation of potential threats; and helping maintain secure technology practices across the district.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
* Install, configure, troubleshoot, maintain, document, and manage school-based technology equipment, including computers, phone systems, Intelligent Classroom technology, and related network equipment.
* Administer and support server and enterprise systems, including Microsoft Active Directory, Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft SCCM, Microsoft 365/Office 365, and related platforms.
* Process account creation, account modifications, permissions, and access requests through the User Management System while supporting secure access management practices.
* Monitor, configure, troubleshoot, and document server backups and assist with recovery procedures as needed.
* Monitor and analyze server, endpoint, application, and security logs to identify system issues, suspicious activity, and potential cybersecurity concerns.
* Use Microsoft Defender and related Microsoft security tools to review alerts, investigate endpoint and security events, support remediation steps, and escalate concerns according to departmental procedures.
* Assist with cybersecurity operations, including basic incident response support, vulnerability remediation coordination, endpoint protection follow-up, and documentation of security-related findings.
* Stay current with cybersecurity threats, attack trends, emerging risks, and recommended mitigation strategies that may impact school systems and district technology operations.
* Support on-site technicians and school administration with technical issues, security-related concerns, and technology needs.
* Manage user accounts, account modifications, permissions, and group memberships to support appropriate access to district systems and resources.
* Prepare and maintain training documentation, FAQs, knowledge-based content, application system procedures, and cybersecurity-related procedures as assigned.
* Communicate with school personnel and vendors to determine technology needs, resolve issues, and support secure technology implementations.
* Coordinate research, purchasing, tracking, and reporting of replacement parts for computers and peripherals.
* Consult with users on technology needs and resolve routine technical issues.
* Collaborate with Technology Services supervisors and stakeholders to support goals, standards, procedures, and secure operating practices.
* Coordinate technical projects supporting technology implementations, upgrades, and deployments.
* Maintain current knowledge of computer, server, cloud, and cybersecurity technologies through training, professional development, and technical publications.
* Act as a backup for Help Desk and on-site technical support.
* Perform other duties related to the effective operation of the Technology Services Department.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
* Associate's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field; bachelor's degree preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
* Two years of work experience supporting client/server technologies, LANs, WANs, and personal computer hardware and software.
* Working knowledge of networking concepts, enterprise systems, and technology support practices.
* Excellent customer service, communication, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
* Ability to explain technical concepts clearly to non-technical users.
* Ability to work independently and collaboratively with technical staff, administrators, school-based personnel, vendors, and other stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field.
* Industry certifications such as Microsoft, CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft 365, Microsoft Defender, or equivalent credentials.
