Position: Forensic RN (FNE-A)

Role Description The Forensic RN (FNE-A) is a PRN, on-site role located in Westminster, MD. This role is responsible for providing trauma-informed, patient-centered forensic nursing care to individuals affected by sexual assault, abuse, or other forms of violence. Responsibilities include performing forensic examinations, collecting and preserving evidence according to legal and clinical standards, documenting findings with precision, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, law enforcement, and advocacy services.

The Forensic RN (FNE-A) will provide crisis intervention, assess physical and mental health needs, and ensure appropriate medical treatment, referrals, and follow-up. This role also involves maintaining competency through ongoing education, adhering to legal and ethical guidelines, participating in quality improvement initiatives, and contributing to community outreach and education when needed.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong Forensic Nursing and Nursing skills, with demonstrated experience in trauma-informed patient care.
  • Candidates should possess knowledge of Forensic Analysis and evidence collection procedures, including proper documentation and chain-of-custody practices.
  • Candidates should possess a solid foundation in Medicine and clinical assessment, including the ability to identify and treat acute and chronic health issues.
  • Candidates should possess awareness of Mental Health needs, including crisis intervention, psychosocial assessment, and appropriate referral for counseling or support services.
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Maryland, with Forensic Nurse Examiner–Adult (FNE-A) certification or eligibility preferred.
  • Experience in emergency, critical care, or women’s health settings is beneficial, as well as familiarity with local legal and victim advocacy resources.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, and capacity to maintain professionalism in emotionally challenging situations.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, cultural sensitivity, and adherence to ethical and legal standards in forensic and clinical practice.
