What You Will Do
The Master HVAC Mechanic plays a crucial role in the integrity of heating, ventilation, air conditioning equipment and systems of Carroll County Government. You will oversee efforts to install new and maintain existing HVAC systems. We are looking for an experienced, licensed tradesperson with advanced knowledge of HVAC systems and related codes. Your day-to-day will include important decisions to enhance systems, mitigate risks, and lead projects to ensure the successful project completion.
Essential Duties
- Organize, plan, and schedule maintenance and installation of complex HVAC systems and equipment. Pull permits as required.
- Perform advanced maintenance services related to heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, and stationary building equipment. Test, troubleshoot, make advanced and complex repairs, and perform preventative maintenance, as needed.
- In a lead capacity, plan, coordinate, and schedule HVAC repairs, installation, and replacement projects.
- Inspect mechanical systems. Lay out and perform complex mechanical installations.
- Adjust and repair pneumatic systems.
- Read and interpret manuals, blueprints, and schematics.
- Operate Building Automation System. Collect and record data using a Computerized Maintenance Management System, including logging daily work and preventative maintenance tasks.
- Gather proper materials and tools in preparation for jobs. Use resources effectively.
- Perform total HVAC project management including complete unit design, replacement, and installation of duct work and other mechanical components.
- Independently run service calls and make emergency HVAC repairs as needed.
- Provide oversight and training to other HVAC Mechanics, including assisting with projects and repairs. Perform other trades duties as needed.
- Follow all established safety rules and regulations. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment.

- Independently ensure all work is complete and timely to achieve department goals. Review work of others to ensure that organizational standards are met.

You Might Be a Good Fit If
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or general education diploma (GED)
- Seven or more years of related experience
- A comparable amount of education and experience may be substituted for the minimum requirement.
Required Licenses and Certifications
- Valid driver's license
- Master HVAC license
- CFC Type II certification
- A2L Refrigerant certification
Additional Information
- Will be required to work outside of standard hours.
- May be identified as Essential Personnel during emergency situations.
- Requires criminal background check as condition of employment.
Working Conditions
- Frequent exposure to potentially adverse environmental conditions, including, but not limited to, chemicals, noise, and airborne particles.
- Occasional exposure to potentially adverse weather conditions.
- Frequent physical activity: lifting and carrying over 75lbs, climbing ladders and steps, standing/walking, pushing/pulling, bending, reaching, squatting, stooping, and related activities.
- Must wear appropriate PPE as required.
