The principal is considered a ministerial employee by their role as Administrator. Administrators working in a Catholic School agree to work diligently to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. By word and example, these individuals support all the official religious teachings of the Roman Catholic Church throughout their personal and professional lives. Administrators agree to play a substantial role in conveying the Catholic Church's message and carrying out its mission.

The ministry of school administrators embraces the following purposes:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Serves as the guardian of the Catholic culture in the school.
  • Is the servant leader responsible for the administration of the school. The principal is responsible for implementing Diocesan and local policies.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of Catholic microschooling and multi-age learning communities.
  • Maintains a commitment to the essential skills and strategies of Universal Design for Learning, including standards-based planning, assessment, and grading, as well as a whole-child approach to education.
  • Develops and participates in ongoing programs to ensure religious and professional growth of the staff.
  • Hires qualified teachers and provides them with effective leadership.
  • Supports teachers in achieving the goals of Catholic education through supervision and classroom visitation.
  • Fosters effective communication with parents, parish community and other stakeholders to promote goodwill.
  • Attends all diocesan meetings and maintains professional educator licensure.
  • Sends required reports and requested information to the Catholic Schools Office and/or other appropriate agencies.
  • Maintains current student and school records.
  • Develops the school budget in collaboration with parish/school business or finance manager.
  • Serves as an ex-officio member of the local school board.
  • Gives frequent reports to the pastor, local board, and parents regarding progress of the school, its activities, and its students ensuring that maintenance of the building, health, safety and well-being of students and teachers is maintained.
  • Accepts and completes other duties as assigned by the pastor.
Education & Experience
  • A practicing Catholic who brings a commitment to nurturing the Catholic culture of the school.
  • Holds a master's degree in education from an accredited college/university with an emphasis or endorsement in administration, supervision, educational leadership or curriculum.
  • Possesses a current Illinois administrative licensure (Illinois Professional Educator License with either a General Administrative (Type 75) or a Principal Endorsement) or is in an accredited program.
  • Danielson-trained in accordance with Illinois State Certification Requirements.
  • At least three to five years teaching and leadership experience, preferably in a Catholic school; with knowledge and exposure that is sufficiently broad to provide an understanding of the preschool through grade eight structure in a Catholic microschool; and
  • Experience in functioning as the spiritual and educational leader in a Catholic Elementary School preferred.
Physical Abilities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, feel with hands, reach with arms, walk up or down multiple flights of stairs, and be physically able to perform duties as assigned, including the ability to lift up to 20-30 pounds if needed. Works in standard office and school building environments but also has ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.

Salary

Range

$53,951–$101,872. Final salary will be determined by relevant teaching experience and relevant education.
