Position Purpose
To establish and maintain a safe, caring environment for preschool and elementary school students during lunch and lunch recess periods, after school, and during school break camps.
Essential Functions
Extended Care
Extended Care staff must enjoy working with school-aged children/teens. The candidate must have a positive attitude and serve as a role model to participants in the program. This position is ideal for someone who is willing to work a few hours in the afternoon, is creative, child oriented, responsible, and dedicated. They are responsible for:
- Ensuring safety of all children in the program
- Signing children in upon arrival and out when they leave
- Creating an enriching, fun, and safe environment
- Planning activities
- Interacting positively with children and their families
- Working independently as well as with a team
On regular in-session school days Mon-Fri 2:45pm - 6:00pm, except Wed 1:45pm - 6:00pm.
Lunch and Recess Monitor
Seeking an energetic and dynamic Lunch and Recess Monitor who will work scheduled hours on regular in-session school days, Mon-Fri 12:00pm - 1:00pm. Ideal candidates are individuals who are interested in interacting with elementary school students, helping them to follow lunch/recess rules, and maintaining a safe environment while the students enjoy lunch and recess. In addition, the applicant must be willing to help teach children how to use indoor voices while enjoying lunch, help teach table manners, help distribute milk and hot lunches, and help to maintain a welcoming lunch environment for all.

The school staff is considered ministerial employees by their role working in a Catholic School and agree to work diligently to support and strengthen the Catholic Church and its value system. By word and example Catholic school employees support all the official religious teachings of the Catholic Church throughout their personal and professional lives. Instructional Assistants agree to play a substantial role in conveying the Catholic Church's message and carrying out its mission.
Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, feel with hands, reach with arms, walk up or down multiple flights of stairs, and be physically able to perform duties as assigned, including the ability to lift up to 20-30 pounds if needed.
- Works in standard office and school building environments but also has ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.
- High school diploma is required.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Education is a plus, but not required.
- An Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL), Illinois Substitute License, or ELS(PARA) is a plus, but not required.
- Must love working with children and previous experience is preferred.
- Hourly compensation will be in accordance with experience.
- This is a part-time, unbenefited position, hours not to exceed 29 hours per week.
- S/he must complete PGC and have a current favorable Criminal Background Check (CBC) with fingerprinting protocol through Accurate Biometrics.
- This is a part-time, unbenefited position.
- Final rate will be determined by relevant years of experience in a similar job combined with education and professional licensure
