SummaryAs a CAD Designer (Telecommunications Civil Engineering), you bring technical knowledge and experience on AutoCAD software and a growing understanding of drafting techniques and civil engineering terminology. Talman represents many of the largest telecommunications providers and underground utility organizations making significant investments in infrastructure management projects.
Position Type/Expected Hours of WorkThis is a full-time exempt role that requires working more than 40-hours per week at times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Apply computer-aided drafting skills to create drawings to scale showing relation of proposed installations to existing facilities and exact specifications and dimensions.
- Train on AutoCAD software to create design drawings by using aerial image overlays, field measurements, or by interpreting survey data, establishing the public right-of-way, applying location of existing above and underground utilities from atlases/record drawings received from clients and other municipality processes.
- Work with Design Leaders to develop civil drawings for underground and aerial utilities by developing utility base maps, determining the line of lay, and method of construction installation per client’s standards and in accordance with standard engineering drafting practices and municipality standards.
- Execute pole drawings by place equipment on telephone and/or light poles, keeping in mind weight of equipment, proper placement techniques, azimuths for antenna pointing, and fiber placement.
- Incorporate existing striping, pavement markings, crosswalks, etc. on traffic control plans and drawings.
- Create optimal running lines within design/basemap.
- Accurately understand and applies revisions from multiple entities.
- Create restoration and multi-phased traffic control plans.
- Details to include all views and dimensions necessary for construction.
- Meet or exceed Talman’s QA/QC engineering and design standards.
- Makes copies of drawings and maintains information regarding changes to trackers.
- Create record drawings from field notes.
- Current knowledge of what needs to be included in drawings (pole, underground, and aerial) to ensure all necessary equipment is mapped and is being designed to build.
- Ability to complete basemap designs – implement utilities, read row/parcel maps.
- Ability to read atlases.
- Familiarity with the GIS as-built function in the industry.
- Good problem solver with the ability to identify alternative solutions.
- Ability to work as part of a team in a fast-paced environment with critical deadlines.

This role requires 2+ years of related experience and/or training. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from a four-year college or university. Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Eligibility for this position is limited to individuals who establish and maintain permanent residence in Illinois or Indiana and who are able to meet regular, in-person attendance requirements at the company’s Westmont, IL office.
