Description

Directs the operations, programs, and activities in all clinical areas of the surgery center. Plan, direct, and coordinate patient care activities in the facility to maintain standards of patient care, and advise medical staff in matters related to clinical services by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors. Define and maintain facility standards in patient care and practice in accordance with all policies and procedures of the center in accordance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards in collaboration with the center Administrator.

Duties And Responsibilities Include The Following
  • Plans and organizes activities related to specified clinical services to ensure patient needs are met in accordance with professional standards of medical and nursing care and facility administrative procedures.
  • Coordinates activities with other facility departments, patient care units, ambulance services, medical staff, patients' relatives, law enforcement officers, the media, and other health facilities.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates methods to ensure effective and efficient use of staff, facilities, equipment, and other resources while maintaining patient care standards.
  • Develops, implements, and coordinates quality management, utilization review, and discharge planning programs.
  • Consults with nurse managers and medical staff on patient care or nursing problems and interpretation of facility policies to ensure patient needs are met.
  • Plans and organizes orientation and in‑service training for staff members, and participates in guidance and educational programs.
  • Visits departments to observe procedures and make appropriate suggestions and recommendations for improving techniques, policies, and procedures.
  • Formulates budget based on appropriate workload indicators and anticipated revenues.
  • Monitors and controls department costs to maintain expenditures within allocations.
  • Recommends acquisition of capital equipment.
  • Engages in studies and investigations related to improving delivery of services.
  • Ensures facility compliance with accreditation standards.
  • Orients new staff and assures that training and education needs of staff are met.
  • Coordinates activities and the work assignments of staff members.
  • Directs the nursing assessment of all patients.
  • Observes nursing care and visits patients to ensure that nursing care is carried out as directed and treatment is administered in accordance with physician instructions.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates facility policies, goals, and objectives.
  • Participates in the development and modifications of facility programs.
  • Participates in infection control and quality assessment activities and analysis.
  • Interprets and enforces facility policies and procedures.
  • Participates in the development and monitoring of budget.
  • Participates in appropriate committees.
  • Directs preparation and maintenance of patients' clinical records.
  • Orders or directs ordering of drugs, solutions, and equipment, and maintains records on narcotics.
  • Investigates and resolves complaints, or refers unusual problems to superior.
  • Other duties assigned.

Is responsible for directing all patient care activities within the assigned location, including the performance of such all clinical staff in accordance with all established policies and procedures.
